I'm curious what everyone's views of afterlife are. Let's see if I can work out this poll feature. :D Though I also want to hear more thoughts on it, not just see poll results.
My personal viewpoints on the afterlife:
My beliefs are in no way set in stone. They're always evolving, always changing. I don't believe any of us can ever have the absolute answer, until we actually are there. All the specific little details I have about the afterlife are basically a wild guess. It could be similar to this, or it could be vastly different.
Keeping that in mind, I believe in reincarnation. I also believe, in a vague sense, in karma. I believe each of us has a "higher self", which is "us" in the truest sense, and also acts as our "guardian angel" sometimes - though other angels and "higher selves" can also be our angels. (Anyone think I'm a weirdo yet?? LOL)
I believe that when we die, we are reunited with our higher self. It's our higher self that can remember past lives, that knows our true goals, etc. When we die, we take stock of our life. What did we set out to learn, and did we accomplish that? How far along did we get?
We then decide whether to take a break, or jump back into life on Earth. That happens in what some call Heaven, some call Summerlands. So, we get to take a break, resting up in Heaven for a bit, planning out our next move. We set goals for our next life, planning out our own life's details, as well as can be, planning out all the forks we'll be taking, and doing all of this with the goal of improving ourselves. Were we terrible "people persons" in the former life? Maybe we plan out ways to grow in our interactions with others. Was there a specific person we've harmed? Maybe that person can be interwoven into this life, so we get the chance to make amends. Maybe a brother we picked on mercilessly becomes our son, or our father.
When we've planned all this out, and when the opportunity comes, we then are put into our new Earthly body to begin the path anew. At that time, we are separated again from our higher self, along with our past life memories.
So, what keeps people who hate life on earth from staying in Heaven forever? I also believe in a sort of hierarchy. The more spiritually evolved are more "free" in the afterlife. The unrepentant murderers and such are more chained down. Not from a Deity set out to punish, but by their own ..... what word am I looking for here? By their own means, anyway. They might be satisfied for awhile staying in the afterlife, but eventually, they'll be wanting another chance.
Again, this is all personal guesswork, come from years of reading various theories and formulating my own.
So.... what are some of your wild & crazy theories on the subject?
