My all time favorite series, and one of the best books I have ever read is the Wheel of Time series. The first book is The Eye of the World.

Someone compared the first book "The Eye of the World" as having the wonder of Tolkien with the horror of Stephen King and I agree with that. In that book it seems that every time you think the main characters are finally safe, they get thrust back into danger again. It has a gritty realism you won't find in Tolkien and a very solid history that isn't there in the Potter series. The large cast of characters are very easy to distinguish and utterly likeable. The world through which Rand and friends travel through is vividly described and seems so real in detail. The more one discovers about the customs and cultures of the various people in different nations the more there is to discover. For the Harry Potter and Tolkien fans who haven't read The Eye of the World, pick up this book. It surpasses both authors in every way imagineable! You won't be disapointed!

Here, here! I am a huge fan of Robert Jordan. In fact, he's one of my most favorite authors, along with Merdeces Lackey and Melanie Rawn.

I agree that the Wheel of Time series is a must read and that it's a very well written series at that. I love the fact that the series ties in EVERYTHING - though it may span through several books - and that much in the book doesn't mirror what I've read in other fantasy/sword and sorcery books (I'm a HUGE fantasy reader). If you're one who likes mystery (and there is a lot of mystery), can appreciate complex yet well thought out plots and lengthy books (I tend to read books 400 pages plus), and enjoys the fantasy genre, this would be a good series to check out.

Ah, I could discuss this series forever.

BTW, which book are you on, Darth? Or have you read them all?

embyr,

I'm so well read on all of the books of the Wheel of Time series, you could quote me a paragraph from any of his ten books (each four to six hundred pages or more) and I'll tell you where the characters are at and what they are doing. So I'm pretty much into Robert Jordan!
