in regards to the instant antibacterial that can be used without water, does it actually eliminate bacteria or is the intense alcohol smell a "marketing technique?"

Howdy. I am assuming you are referring to the myriad of products that come in small bottles and prepackaged wipes. I do know that in vitro tests, those in a lab, show these products are effective against killing bacteria. The same would be true on your skin, to varying degrees. Apparently studies support their use, for they are a viable alternative here at medical school. Well, excepting scrubbing in for sugery; that has to be with a sink.

I was actually just referring to the little CVS bottles that you squeeze the liquid in your hand, rub it in, and then your hands are supposedly clean. You answer may still be accurate

Alcohol kills germs. That stuff is mostly alcohol. Ergo, that stuff kills germs. Though it also leaves dirt that you can only get rid of with scrubbing under a sink.

Yeah, those are effective, as well.
