Kennedy complains just to complain (http://washingtontimes.com/business/20040324-121402-7035r.htm)

The Bush administration was criticized yesterday for not acting to curb escalating oil prices even as the price of gasoline at the pump rose to a record high nationwide.
At a hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham said the administration would not temporarily stop filling the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to help lower oil prices and it would not publicly call on OPEC to roll back production cuts scheduled for April 1.
"We've ... made clear we're not going to beg for oil," said Mr. Abraham, although he later told reporters that the administration has been working behind the scenes to try to bring prices down.
"We have had a lot of contacts at a lot of levels," he said.
"We're not begging," said Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat. "We have men and women over there" in Iraq.
Iraq has the world's second-largest oil reserves after Saudi Arabia. The slow revival of exports from Iraq, despite U.S. control of the country, has been a factor driving up oil prices.
Mr. Kennedy and other committee Democrats said they were outraged that the administration is not doing everything in its power to alleviate the strain on drivers, consumers and businesses.
AAA announced yesterday that the price of regular-grade gasoline hit a record at about $1.74 a gallon, though the country is still months away from the peak summer-driving season, when gas prices normally are highest.
Average gas prices in California and some other states already are well above $2. The record gas prices reflect sharp increases in the price of crude oil, which hit a 13-year high of $38.15 a barrel last week in New York trading.
Many analysts expect both gasoline and oil prices to establish records in the months ahead, in a trend that economists say poses trouble for the still-uncertain economic recovery.
"It's an intolerable position," Mr. Kennedy said. "No one can understand it ... why the president of the United States isn't jawboning OPEC."

Lets sum up Teddy's thoughts on the matter - we need oil, we're not going to beg, we have troops in Iraq. What's he saying exactly????

Maybe now that the Oscars are over all of the Hollywood celebrities have parked their Toyota Priuses and are demanding cheap gas for their limos and SUVs! Normally you'd think he'd be against anything that might encourage the purchase of environmentally toxic SUVs. Hmmm.

I get the impression he's just stating the situation that exists. An army in Iraq, and billions to Columbia, are hardly actions of a nation begging.

Now please do not get the impression that I'm an apologist for the democratic party, but there has been opportunity to raise to raise CAFE standards (reduce oil consumption have been thwarted by the automotive industry and their hired lackies (politico's from both sides and our president).

It's rather unfortune that our infrustructure is so dependent on automobiles. This wouldn't be such a crisis if we had better public transit. Rich people probably don't worry about the price of gas, I imagine it's the family earning $25,000 or less a year.

We pay much less at the pump on gasoline then other nations...that doesn't include $$$ going to government subsidies.

LOL, typical two faced kennedy. screams bloody murder about going to iraq for oil, then hints at using iraqi oil to help reduce the price of gas. how has this guy stayed in office so long? is it only his last name that keeps him there?

Honestly, I do believe Bush went there for oil…and he has gotten so much criticism for it, that he isn’t using the oil, he got from Iraq, to reduce the gas prices. Thank god he got the picture…

I heard on the radio today that gas prices, adjusted for inflation, were actually about a dollar more expensive in like 1983. Personally I don't see how it's the government's job to get us cheap gas. Let gas cost what the market dictates like everything else (except sugar - why the government is so obsessed with sugar prices I'll never know).

It’s not the government’s job to get us low gas prices, but it’s funny they are all of a sudden at a RECORD HIGH, and how Bush and Chaney are or WERE both in the OIL business…together.

Ironic, yes

Wow, Trav, you really don’t pay attention.

Again, it’s not their job, but it should be their priority and they should PASS BILLS IN THE SENATE TO LOWER GAS PRICES AND BILLS TO CREAT JOBS. DUH!

LOL! It’s not their JOB, but it should be their responsibility

No, you pass bills to try and create jobs. To see if they will work.

Sometimes they fail, and sometimes they work.

But you have to try, and you have to come up with ideas to get jobs rolling in America.

you mean ideas like giving the people who create the jobs tax cuts so they can hire more employees?

“you mean ideas like giving the people who create the jobs tax cuts so they can hire more employees?”

LOL! You’re a funny on Trav. Yes president Bush thought of this idea, and it could have worked, but it’s proven to fail. With the jobless rate, staying the same or rising. Honestly, Bush needs to find a new plan, to create new jobs, because this one isn’t working. But I’m glad you understand the concept of how President’s try to make jobs now!

LOL, ya thats right, as soon as the new jobs started showing up they were labeled by the liberals as mcJobs. LOL, nothing is ever good enough for these pukes. tell us Mr Greenspan, what would you do to crete new jobs?

Instead of shipping jobs overseas I would gladly vote (if I could), to keep them here. As John Kerry wants to do now. He use to be for getting them over sea’s, but now Bush has lost over 3million jobs, and we need to keep jobs here, and now.

Something is wrong? No, something is wrong that John Kerry has had to change his mind, because the reason he had had to, is because Bush has failed at many things.

He was in support of sending jobs over seas
Until Bush gave us a huge jobless rate

He was in support of the war
Until Bush lied about WMD’s, and went as a first resort not a last resort.

So something is wrong that he had to change his mind about a lot of issues…

And the thing that is wrong is good old Georgey! He gave us all of these problems, and now people have had to re-think their opinions, and change what they think, in order to correct the horrible direction Bush is sending us in.

Ain't seen hide nor hair of NEM anywhere lately, although there's a recently bloodied carcass to be found ..... ! Don't know that NEM has any of the qualities needed to survive Middle Earth, let along a battle including either a balrog or Gandalf.

Ah, yes........that ol' NeoCon-LIE (http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/23More.htm) that keeps on tickin'!!!!!!!

"The central concept of supply-side economics is that tax cuts cause economic growth. Tax cuts allow entrepreneurs to invest their tax savings, which creates higher productivity, jobs and profits. This, ironically, allows the entrepreneur and his new workers to pay even more taxes, even at lower rates.

The supply-side idea is a simple one, and makes a popular political message. However, it is interesting to note that mainstream economists -- even conservative ones -- almost universally reject supply-side theory." :@@:

Try, again, Skippy!!!! :p
