looking at this picture, you would think we were still in the run up to the war. but its a year later, and the morons still fly the "no blood for oil!" sign, have these people no imagination? or are they just so burned out they dont have the energy to paint a new sign?

The whole troops die for oil thing is so old and tired. I'm sick and tired of hearing that garbage. If the US wanted more oil then it wouldn't spend 160 billion $ for at the one year mark - no oil at all.

How exactly do these people think we are going to gain oil from Iraq?

2. We're a little too deep into it to just back out now

Maybe the protests go on so that idiots like you can figure out what the war was REALLY about. In case you neglected to hear/read/see on the news, the WMD were not found, and the whole "Go to Iraq for the WMD" panic was nothing more than a poorly constructed lie to invade an oil-rich middle eastern nation. But of course, there will always be morons who advocate blindly going to the frontlines of a battle to die so that corporate interests can be appeased. Where do you fit in?

I was at a protest, and even though the official reason was to mark the anniversary of the war, I think the real reason for it was to express genral disgust with Bush's actions at the moment. it's important to remind the American public of what's happening, and it's also important to remember that even though the war is technically over, we still have a lot of troops there, and they are still dying, so the conflict obviously isn't finished with.

And there will always be morons who blindly cling to simplistic explanations for complex issues in spite of all logic and data to the contrary. It was "no blood for oil" back when Saddam invaded another country (in other words, when the war was clearly about kicking Saddam out of a country he wrongfully invaded). And it was "no blood for oil" this time, even though oil prices have gone through the roof since the war started. You'll probably be saying "no blood for oil" 20 years from now regardless of what happens. Talk about moronic.

"No blood for oil" is an especially ironic argument in light of the evidence that some UN officials were profiting from the "oil for food" program that gave all sorts of kickbacks to the murderous tyrant Saddam. Talk about blood for oil . . .

And there will always be morons who blindly cling to simplistic explanations for complex issues in spite of all logic and data to the contrary.

Logic and data... hmm... Like the fact that the entire UN body minus the US and Britain is skeptical about the existance of ANY WMD in Iraq? Like the fact that several top ex-aides of Bush have admitted that Bush just wanted to invade Iraq to finish the job his father never had time to end? Or maybe like the fact that the cheif UN Weapons Inspector and his team have said repeatedly that their thorough investigations have found nothing to even remotely suggest capabilties of making WMD in Iraq? It's morons like you who ignore the facts and logic, and proceed to blindly worship an equally stupid president.

when the war was clearly about kicking Saddam out of a country he wrongfully invaded
If you had known anything about Kuwait's invasion, you would know that Kuwait is an oil-rich nation in the middle east with vast reservoirs catering to greedy American oil corporations, and that Saddam's invasion would threaten the oil supply to the U.S. And since when is U.S. policy concerned AT ALL about so-called "wrongful" occupations of countries? Where was the Bush administration when thousands were being slaughtered in Taiwan in their fight for independance? Where was Bush when millions in North Korea, Iran, Sudan and the Ivory Coast suffered under oppressive governments and civil wars? Or did these countries simply not offer a high enough profit margin for the walking corporation that is Bush?

And it was "no blood for oil" this time, even though oil prices have gone through the roof since the war started.
Gee and I had totally expected that the minute the U.S. invaded Iraq, oil production would skyrocket 1000% in Iraq... Talk about stupid. Think a little: It'll take more than a month, than a year, than maybe even 10 years to get Iraq oil production to the levels it was at before the American led assaults on its soil. Oil prices are skyrocketing not because of Iraq, but because of increased demand from the bulging Asian market.

in light of the evidence that some UN officials were profiting from the "oil for food" program that gave all sorts of kickbacks to the murderous tyrant Saddam. Talk about blood for oil .
And who started the obviously doomed from the beginning "Oil for Food" program? Why, it was the U.S. government! Who would have thought that sending billions of dollars to a greedy dictator would have the money misused? It seems rather stupid to have slapped embargos on Iraq in the first place, as you have just pointed out, the only people who suffered for it were the Iraqi people, and not the wealthy politicians.

I find it extremely entertaining to read the brainless comments of pro-Bushers as I call them, who spaz over the supposed threat of terrorism some countries pose to the U.S., and thus justify invading those countries and murdering millions of people in the process. The greatest terrorist in the world is the U.S. at this moment, because any country that advocates world peace by invading a harmless country like Iraq is nothing more than an international bully. The world hates the Bush administration - it's a fact. You can always adopt the attitude that everyone in the world is wrong except for the Bush administration, that the entire UN is wrong, that the millions of voters in Spain, Britain, France, Germany and other countries are wrong, and that the widespread public disapproval of the U.S. led invasion of Iraq is wrong. But to argue that would be ridiculous. I don't see any of you pro-war protesters out there dying for your country, like the many thousands of American soliders had to do. I don't see any of you willing to throw yourself on the frontlines of a battle and exchange your lives for a few barrels of oil that the greed of the Bush administration has decided war is worth.

Wrong. The UN was very much in the belief that Iraq had WMD - that is why resolution 1441 was passed 15-0

Oil prices are skyrocketing not because of Iraq, but because of increased demand from the bulging Asian market.
Wrong again. Oil prices are high not because of demand - but because of supply rationing and increased profit taking by major oil companies.

..and thus justify invading those countries and murdering millions of people in the process.
Oh dear, wrong again. Fuzzy math by the sound of it.;)

I dunno, I recall seeing a few

"Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve"
"God Hates Gays"
"Saddam on a Platter"
"Hippies Go Home"
"Support Our Troops"
"God Bless America"

It seems the other side of the political fence has plenty of experience with short slogans, as well. But, you know what? That's FINE! Honestly, do you expect people to walk around with 30-page position papers scrawled on their posterboard? Gimme a break.

I was in Portland on Saturday and participated in a march where over 15,000 people attended.

There were old people, young people, professionals and radicals. I think the show of solidaritity is more a critisism of pre-emptive unilateral war based on lies.

Around the corner from the march, there was a small band of pro bush supporters who numbered maybe a dozen.

If people would speak to some of these anti war protesters I think you will find they aren't so stupid.

The police, and air port security is doing a good job. Attacking Iraq isn’t. Besides Bush, I will admit has done an “OK” job at security on our planes. But he has failed to protect our allies. So in the mean time we have terrorist attacks on our quote “allies”, who we want to support us? Also, they said we might be next, after the Spain attacks. So no, I don’t think Bush has done a good job at attacking the organizations that may attack our allies or us.

Our security in our airports is not enough, and Bush isn’t doing enough. The security is a delay in something that could very well lead to a huge terrorist attack.

I have to agree with OD...but I do also believe that capturing OBL will send a message to his followers. I just believe that capturing OBL should have happened before the Iraq war, but hindsight is 20/20.

In reality, unless we close the borders and erect an iron box around our country, I'm not sure we'll ever be 100% safe from any attack. The same can be said for any nation.

And, although I do not agree with the Bush Administration (on just about every issue) I do have to wonder that if Al Gore were in office when 9/11 occurred, where would we be now? Seriously - any thoughts?? It's probably safe to say, also, that we wouldn't have gone to war with Iraq and lost so many soldiers, money, etc. But, would we as a nation have been better off?

We would still be looking for whatever it was taht we did to make the terrorists hate s so much and attack us, the UN would be running the show and still debating whether or not it was legal to invade afghanistan. the al qaeda training camps would still be pumping out terrorists like an assembly line in Afghanistan, Saddam would be sitting in his ivory tower, Irans nukes would still be unkown, Lybia would feel no need to give up its stash of WMD. N Korea would still be blackmailing us into giving them all sorts of free stuff every time they decided to mention nukes, it would have been a mess.

Because Spain had an election before we did. They saw an opportunity and took it and it paid off like they had hoped. The old leaders that cowered to the Bush administration were voted out. The new leaders are still very willing to continue the fight against terrorists, they are just strong enough to not feign support for the illegal invasion of Iraq so that they can be bribed with construction contracts.

This is evident not only by the vote, but the demonstrations that followed their attacks. As much as the right says that they are appeasing the terrorists (and in a round about way they are), I believe that they have showing that they also won't be bullied by an arrogant, self-serving U.S. administration more than anything.

So they have actually attacked us in a metaphorical sense. They are showing the people in this country that there are very serious doubts about the veracity of the reasons for invading Iraq all over the world. And Spain has shown the other "Coalition of the Willing" that you don't have to be strong-armed by the Bush administration any longer. Hence, the other nations that have actually put troops in Iraq are all either pulling them out or considering it. As for the other 30 or so "countries" (most the size of Rhode Island and having no military at all), if they weren't so reliant on U.S. handouts for survival, I don't think that they would be supporting the war anymore either.

Bush was the weakest President when it came to countering terrorism. An nth amount of reports are coming out each month with each supporting the same fact: Bush failed America. When the Clinton adminstration gave the White House over to Bush, he was warned many times about the threat of a terror attack, and what did he do? He ignored it. Sounds like he was more concerned with planning his assault on Iraq than he was protecting American lives.

Here's a little newsflash for all of you, from a former Bush aide:
The government's former top counterterrorism adviser testified Wednesday that the Clinton administration had "no higher priority" than combatting terrorists while the Bush administration made it "an important issue but not an urgent issue." Richard Clarke told a bipartisan commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks that "although I continued to say it (terrorism) was an urgent problem I don't think it was ever treated that way

OK, let me explain to you why you are wrong on all accounts. first, this guy, dick clarke, is just a turn coate liberal. first he comes out with this book, and says how important it is, well 2 years after he leaves office he decides to talk, coincidentally right at the time of the release of his book and 60 minutes interview and al that. then he says to the panel that under Bush terrorism wasnt the highest prority, but under clinton it was. WTF??? if you believe that, you are complete moron. I am sorry, but thats the only way to say it. if you believe a president who sits back and allows the WTC to get bombed, 2 US Embassies to get destroyed, and a US Warship nearly sunk, all by terrorists, with harldy a retribution agaisnt them has the fight agaisnt terrorism as his highest priority you are either very gullible or just a left wing apologist. and the funniest thing is the supposed plan left on W;s desk by clinton, with detailed plans to take out al qaida. LMAO. tell me, if clintons top concern was terrorism, why did he not just enact the plan? why pass it along? he claims becasue he didnt have public opinion behind him, well that makes public opinion his highest priority, not terrorism! glad to hear he has his prioritys  its just more bullshit to try and clear clinton and his goons of any resposibility for 9-11 or the free pass given to al qaida up to 9-11. This makes me so mad to hear this kind of bullshit from the liberal media and people like this guy just accept it without question. check this out: in the panel, they suggested military action should have been taken against the terrorist before 9-11. there is a word for that, preemptive. now tell me, what was the attack on iraq all you bafoons cry about? preemptive. do you really think a bush attack on afghanistan before 9-11 would have been any more warmly recieved then the attack on Iraq? I know all of you liberals will say yes, becasue your entire argument agaisnt the war is based on hindsight, but in reality you would have hit the streets and protested the killing of innocent civilians and the toppeling of a foreign government by imperialist american forces. the thing that pisses me off the most is the contradiction and hypocrisy. if any of you liberal come out in favor of a pre 9-11 premptive strike on afghanistan, and denounce the same exact thing on iraq, you are nothing but hypocrits. no amount of spin is going to change that. :hitout:

Can you imagine what would've happened if Bush launched an attack on Afghanistan before 9/11?? The international outcry would have been deafening. The liberal in this country would be protesting (no blood for poppy seeds!)

The truth is you overuse the term "liberal' and apply it to people you disagree with or don't like with little or no regard for their actual stand on issues. To you, the term is just another insult you can hurl in one of your vindictive tirades. I don't think you can tell if a person is a liberal by looking at their position on one issue. If you looked only at my views on gun control you would have to conclude that I was a conservative.

The point is that you you liberally (pun intended) apply labels to everyone, whether it's liberal, conservative, terrorist, or whatever. It's a very simplistic way of dealing with people, issues, and politics in general.

look smart guy, go look into this guy and what he has said in the past. he has contradicted himself over and over agian, a clearly liberal trait if there ever was one

You suggest that mevam should actually do some research on Clarke but in your original post about Clarke, you start out by saying:

OK, let me explain to you why you are wrong on all accounts. first, this guy, dick clarke, is just a turn coate liberal.

Unfortunately you don't explain why Clarke is a liberal or even why he's a turncoat. Maybe you can explain how being self-contradictory has anything to do with being liberal.

I admit I didn't look for people you have wrongly called liberal because that's not the point I was making. I never said you wrongly called people liberal, I said you use labels way too much, and that it is an overly simplistic way to view complex issues and people. You called Clarke a liberal but said nothing to back up that rather suspicious claim.

Again Trav, people are not such simple things that can be so easily labelled, if you have learned nothing else on these forums you should have learned that by now.

Trav you say Clarke is an in closet liberal…

I think you believe that anyone who is against Bush is a liberal…when that isn’t true.

People in Bush’s own cabinet have turned against him…

John McCain
Richard Clarke

And that’s bad when any candidate does not have full support from his own party

Oh and both my Grandmother’s, and Grandfather’s, WHO ARE ALL REGISTERED Republican, voted for Bush in the last election, are utterly appalled…and are voting John Kerry…but thanks anyway.

ho hum....oh ya, its funny, becasue I dont remember kerry getting the endorsment of anybody in his party. but why bother with that when we can point out that bush has recieved criticism. so anyway, your right, bush is through, lets just innagurate president kerry now and forget the whole fomality of voting.

Dean, and almost all of the other democratic nominees have pledged for Kerry. If you look carefully at the list, you will see a lot of Democrats are in support of Kerry. No democrat has turned against him, unlike on Bush's side...

Funny...isn't it?

Disagreeing and turning against are different things. McCain's not going to vote against Bush. And by the way, he wasn't in Bush's cabinet - he's a senator.

I'm not sure why we're debating the issue of whether democrats will support the democratic nominee and republicans will support the republican nominee.
