Here's a nice story to counteract that other thread about the French and Americans hating each other.
:flowers:
French wooing tourists back (http://www.enquirer.com/editions/2004/03/19/biz_frenchtrip19.html)
And French citizens are offering to keep U.S. veterans of the invasion in their homes free of charge in Normandy.

I will be glad to keep any veteran from this forum (excluding Tentmaker) in my home free of charge next summer.

I've been to France more times than I can count & I've always found the French to be very nice and welcoming people.

I'm sure if you're nice to them, they're nice to you. And if you treat them like crap, they treat you like crap. A lot like Americans.

When I was in Paris, those people were the biggest bunch of assholes I have ever encountered. they went out of thier way to make sure we had a very hard and unpleasant time during our stay in paris. they ripped us off, misled us, lied to us, it sucked. on the other hand, I spent a week in normandy, and the french were much different there. they welcomed us, partyed with us in the bars, bought us beers, drove us around to the invasion beachs, that was a very enjoyable week in normandy.

The french in Normandy are closer to England - that's why they were nicer ;)
I have never found people in Paris to be as bad as you describe, but it's fast paced and a special unique kind of arrogance does pervade French upper class and those who aspire to that (higher concentration in a big city like Paris).

I agree. Of course there are many nice people in Paris, but most of those who are in contact with tourists could be far nicer ! In shops, hotels, taxis, bars, restaurants you will often find quite unpleasant people. That is less true in smaller towns.
And french people should definitely try to speak a better english !
