Mermaids have traditionally been regarded as beautiful attractive creatures often appearing in fantasy literatures. People usually take this for granted, but upon close inspection this is actually quite phenomenal. For example, if you substitute another animal's lower body for the fish on mermaids, would they still be attractive? If so, what animals can be substituted. Why do you think that certain animals work and some don't?
Even more interesting is this scenario: if you are going to be stranded on an island for a looooong time and have the choice of a companion, would you choose a mermaid (real hot upperbody)or a reverse mermaid? (reverse mermaid: hot woman's lower body [real hot], upper body is fish [of course it would be a big fish equivalent in size to the fish that mermaids' lower body is made of]) Why? For the record, studies show that 80% people choose mermaid.
