In a RAID configuration the two drives would act as one. But normally, you'd have to format to get that working. First of all check your existing drive in your OS and see if its disk size has increased. If not, check your jumpers and make sure they're okay (Your new drive should be jumpered at "Slave", or if the cable is set up correctly, "Cable select".
But the true question is, do you need a RAID configuration anyway? I'd take a second look at RAID and really decide if it's right for you. You could always just have two standard drives.
Btw, what level RAID?

I have done some homework and have discovered that i don't really need raid and in fact i'm after just two basic drives. My initial idea was to add another drive to my PC and setup XP boot from my new drive.I just wanted a second drive that supported SATA so i could have a fast drive to boot up from and to add more drive space to my PC.
