Travh, all men are created equal, including the pedophiles that you threw into the discussion. They should be treated equally until they commit a crime against an innocent child...then they lose those equality rights.

You keep saying "the minority is imposing on the majority". Gay Marriage will not cause the "majority" to become involved in a gay marriage. How is it "imposing" to allow someone else to do something that you do not like???? If I don't like to eat liver, are you imposing on me if you eat liver? Imposing would be if I prevented you from being able to eat liver. Whats more imposing, having someone down the street do something you don't approve of, or preventing someone down the street from doing something that you disapprove of?

And as for putting it to a vote, I don't remember there being a vote to determine the current definition of marriage. As I was typing that last sentence, G.W. Bush in his press conference just said "If I made policy decisions based on what the polls said I would not be an effective president"...so just becasue over 50% of people don't agree with gay marriage is not a reason to make it illegal.

Trav, I have some really close freinds who are gay, and it can really really suck to be an openly gay. a freind of mine was harrased last year constantly by someone he has known forever, whop used to be a good freind of his. the school ignored it, and didn't do anything to punish the kid until his mom threatened to sue the school and go to newspapers about it. another freind of his refuses to hanfg ut with him becasue he doesn't wnat to be thought of as gay. a lesbain freind of mine was almost beaten up a few weeks ago for looking like a guy. if you were to look at my school's anti-discrimination policy, everything imaginable is listed besides sexuality and gender identity. that's just the beginning of it, don't ever underestimate what openly homosexual people go through, it is not pleasent, and it's a really serious problem.

 of course you do. all liberals have friends that are politically convienient to them. do you know how many posts I have seem that started out with "I have really close friends who are ..." or "some of my best friends are...." then insert minority group as needed. Gay, black, muslim, arab. its a classic way to try and give extra credibility to your weak arguments before they start. I am not saying you dont have friends who are gay, I am just saying, dont open arguments against conservatives with that line, it will immediatly make them suspicious of your actual motives.

His motives??? Whammy was just trying to make the point about the struggle gay people experience and he used a specific example of a friend of his. So to do this he mentioned that he had friends who are gay...so what? That was just to show that he knows of the experience first hand. Trav, the "some of my best friends are...." issue you are thinking of is when someone is trying to prove he is not a bigot against that group by announcing he has friends in that group.

You say "all liberals have friends that are politically convienient". Thats not true, but you must assume it is because thats how you live your life. So, does that mean none of your friends are gay, and if not, do you really know anything about the struggles they go through?

Dnamertz, they are just mad because we can actually back-up our statements with actual, factual, experiences and information...and they can't. So the only way to shoot us down, is to try and disregard anything that we could actually prove, by saying we have suspicious motives.

I haven't read this whole post-its too darn long!!! but anyway, as much as you guys may want the issue of gay marriages to go away, it is not. As long as there is religion gays will not be equal. If you want gay rights get either an atheist or a democrat or both into office

You know what's sad? That religious beliefs have effectively influenced the government's role in the whole gay marriage issue, especially its legalization, despite the separation of church and state.

You know what's also sad? When intolerant people (boy did I want to say something other than people) quote the Bible which claims homosexuality is an abomination (Leviticus 20:13) yet totally disregard other parts such as 'Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard,' from Leviticus 19:27.

First and foremost, picking and choosing which parts of the Bible are "okay" and deeming other parts "unacceptable" based on how you live is stupid. I bet a lot of religious men on these boards (and in this country) shave off their beards and keep their hair short and would claim thus claim this passage unacceptable to live by. However, many of those same men would uphold and espouse the passage stating homosexuality is an abomination. Now, in my opinion, that's basically just believing in things that fit your own personal agenda and um, isn't that wrong? Last time I checked that wasn't was religion was all about (although I could be wrong since I'm not well versed in any certain religion, so maybe believing in things that only work for you is acceptable).

*note, when I say "you" I don't mean any specific person, just people in general
