Couples who concieve multiples using IVF are faced with this decision, to give the remaining embryos a better rate of survival, and to ensure the mother has a better chance of carrying them to term, and for her safety.

My question is this~~~~

Is this a religious, moral/ethical, or a scientific matter?
A combination?

I wasn't sure where I should post.:)

I'm curious how you might perceive the matter.....

All three, I think.

I don't have a very big problem with selective reduction since it's being done for medical reasons.

You remember the McCaughy (sp?) Septuplets?
This was suggested for them and they refused
for religious purposes.

Creetwins I think you are in the right place. There is science involved. An I guess some moral religious stuff. You are right, oh my! I think either one works. :) You can't have one with out the other. Sheesh! Well let me kick this in just because I am me. The babies that are sacrificed for the other babies are good for at least one body part, the pituitary gland. The pituitary is the master gland of life! If you put youth into an old body the old body lives longer. When it comes to the pituitary gland there is a bunch that science isn't telling us about. The truth is we as human beings are going to have to decide whether or not we are going to sacrifice babies so that those already living can live longer. And based on history money talks, no money no talk. How do we want to play this? Those little folks pituitary glands are extremely valuable. acaveyogi

Ah man! Don't you guys watch the news? :) When you take pieces if a fetus's pituitary gland and implant them into an old sick adults pituitay gland, miraculous things happen. This is why there is controversy between medical research and mostly the Christian right in the US. Medical research says that aborted fetuses are, shall we say, extra and that they should be put to good use, not wasted. On the surface this seems like a good idea. If abortion is legal and fetuses are just thrown away, then why not use some of their parts to heal the sick and the aged. If they have the money. :) This why your origional question sparked my responce. Fetus farming, the wave of the future. Those little fetuses are worth money and it is easy to create a bunch in a batch. I think farming fetuses for their body parts is wrong. But that is just my opinion. acaveyogi
