I find it odd that you are so concerned about this so-called "problem" yet you don't put this, again so-called "information" in the post. Why do you force people to email you? (Btw, I changed the format of your email to avoid spammers getting it)

I apologize! I usually automatically attach these in my "signature" portion, but for some reason, they didn't appear this time. This is a serious matter in our homes today!

I have to say I grew up w/ two younger sisters and we never had a bad encounter with a household chemical. I also watch four kids all 12 and under and they've never had a bad encounter with household chemicals. Is this really a big problem in other houses, have I just been lucky?

Here is yet another article on this problem. If you or a family member has asthma, for instance, certain chemicals in cleaning/laundry products can extremely irritate it. Certain chemicals have also been known to cause ADHD, or in the very least case, contribute to it.

I can help you to connect with a company that has been recognized by the Better Business Bureau and has received awards from the American Chamber of Commerce. This company manufactures ALL NATURAL, SAFE, HIGHLY EFFECTIVE, health and wellness products aimed at wiping out this "trend" of harmful phosphates, chlorine, etc. in our everyday products. These products are concentrated (so you use less than supermarket products), save you money and help give your home a safety net.

My mother says microwave oven emits harmful radiotion and wants me to get rid of it. The next thing you know, she was saying that I should try to have as few eletrical appliances in the house as possible. Then she reads some health article and starts saying that eating peppers is no good, this is no good, that is no good. There is no end to things that are harmful to your body that we use or eat everyday. I personally think it's best just have the knowledge in mind but don't get all paranoid or change your lifestyle completely over it. If you live like everyone else and it's likely that you'll live to average expectancy, which is high enough; if you live a little more savely and healthy, a little longer. I'd be happy if I happen to die at 75, 'cause by that time I'd probably have had most of the fun I set out to have.

lol a microwave oven does emit radiation but it is so small that it could NEVER harm you in the least bit. so maybe you can put her to ease by telling her that...

Unfortunately I can't. She reads about these things from 3rd rate newspapers or some obscure health magazine. They are written by MDs and PhDs. I really can't just tell her that [cough cough] "these might be bs, mother, you see they need to write about SOMETHING to make a living..." :)

Yeah not unless the safety is broken so you can microwave with the door open.

I was walking through the engineering building at college and came across a microwave running with the door open. Obviously I stayed away.

Wrong. Microwaves can cook food easily, why can't they do the same thing to you?

Hmm, I didn't know they operate when the door is open. Isn't there supposed to be safety device that prevents this?

There is on all commercially available microwaves. I'm thinking the one Lionel saw was either broken or it was a scientific microwave that lacked the safety device.

I suspect someone purposefully disabled the safety.
