PEOPLE ACROSS the country took to the streets last week to protest Israel’s war on Palestinians. From Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., and dozens of cities in between, demonstrations and marches drew hundreds, and even thousands of people.

Some 5,000 people marched through downtown Chicago April 6. "They say that justice is blind, but justice isn’t blind when it comes to American tax dollars going to the Israeli government and military," Anam, a Palestinian who lives in Chicago.

That same day, more than 3,000 New Yorkers marched across the Brooklyn Bridge--menaced by police numbering in the hundreds. Marchers chanted slogans like "Bush buys the bullets, Sharon pulls the trigger." In LA, more than 1,500 marched on April 6. In Washington, D.C., about 700 demonstrated in front of the Israeli embassy April 4.

Smaller demonstrations took place across the U.S. In Austin, Texas, more than 200 gathered on the steps of the Capitol, flying Palestinian flags and chanting "Free Palestine." In Vermont, there were nine demonstrations on April 6 against Bush’s war and in support of Palestinians.

The outrage in the U.S. was matched by even bigger protests around the world. In Paris, as many as 40,000 came out on April 6 to show their support for Palestinian liberation. Some 20,000 protesters marched through the streets of Rome to the Piazza del Popolo, where the crowd swelled to about 50,000 people. In Indonesia, more than 1,000 protesters clashed with riot cops.

The protests in the Arab world are especially significant--because of the great sympathy for the Palestinian cause and because of the potentially explosive tensions that characterize nearly every country in the region.

Bahrain and Jordan saw violent clashes between demonstrators and police, but the largest march--estimated at 1 million--took place in Morocco’s capital of Rabat. For seven days in a row, crowds of 15,000 turned out to protest in Baalbek, Lebanon. In Egypt, tens of thousands protested in defiance of a government ban on demonstrations.

These inspiring protests can be the springboard to an international movement in solidarity with the Palestinians. I'm glad to see something is being done we finally got the numbers!

Revolution! On the streets! In your head! MOVE!

CORPSES PILED up in the morgues, or left rotting in the streets. Ambulances barred at checkpoints, while the wounded bleed to death. Palestinians kept prisoners in their own homes by Israel’s siege.

This was the reality in the Israeli-occupied West Bank as Socialist Worker went to press amid the most savage military assault on Palestinians in two decades.

No one knew how many Palestinians had died since Israel’s offensive began March 29. That’s because few dared to leave their houses--for fear of being shot by Israeli snipers.

Desperation stalks Palestinian towns and refugee camps. Everywhere, there is a dire lack of food and medical treatment--made worse after Israeli forces cut electricity and destroyed water mains.

Israel’s terror is designed to humiliate Palestinians--up to and including Palestinian Authority chief Yasser Arafat, still trapped on one floor of his headquarters in Ramallah more than a week after the invasion began. "I don’t know if we can function," said Saeb Erekat, an adviser to Arafat. "This has set us back 10 years. The army has dismantled everything we tried to build."

While Israeli troops pull the triggers, this horror was made in the USA. The U.S. government hands billions of dollars worth of military hardware and high-tech weaponry to Israel every year.

And George W. Bush gave Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon the green light for his latest offensive by repeating again and again that Arafat had to do more to combat "terrorism"--even as Sharon mounted ever more barbaric attacks on Palestinians.

Yet now the U.S. is trying to pose as a "peacemaker." Last week, Bush called on Israel to withdraw its invasion forces--and said that he was dispatching Secretary of State Colin Powell on an "urgent peace mission." It couldn’t have been that urgent--since it took Powell almost a week to get to the Middle East, allowing Sharon to continue down his hit list of West Bank towns.

Whatever the outcome of Powell’s mission, the U.S. bears responsibility for Israel’s savage military repression. Washington has furnished Israel with the weapons it uses against Palestinians and provided political cover for its occupation--and it will continue to do so, even if Powell brokers a cease-fire and withdrawal.

That’s why we need to continue organizing against Israel’s terror--as hundreds of thousands of people did around the world last week. In the Middle East, protesters took to the streets in defiance of authoritarian Arab regimes, facing down riot cops armed with tear gas and water cannons.

Even in the U.S.--where the mainstream media’s pro-Israel lies have seldom been challenged--protests in dozens of cities and towns attracted thousands. "I came to demonstrate against what’s going on back in my hometown," Toufic Ibrahim, a Palestinian who lives in Chicago, told Socialist Worker. "We’re doing our best to stop the killing of innocent people there. We also want to show people back home that we are supporting them--that they aren’t in this struggle by themselves."

The U.S. props up Israel and its barbaric occupation with billions of dollars in aid every year. It’s time to demand that the U.S. stop supporting Israel’s terror--and that we step up the pressure to win justice for Palestinians

Those gay palestine ARABS! I hope isreal takes them all out. They are the morons who support suicide bombing. These so called protest are halfly arabs who wish that our government was a evil like theirs. A few thousand people isnt nothing in a nation of billions, we don't have to march because the president is doing the right thing.

If those palestines started coming over here and commiting suicide bombings in our malls, streets, etc you would rethink attacking back. Palestines are actually paid by countries like iraq, that sadaam idiot supports them, and I can't wait until we start making rubble out of whats left of iraq.

We don't need your homophobic comments there is nothing homosexual about Palestine thanks. You can't argue against Palestine for having suicide bombers Israel has its fair share of suicide bombers also. Indeed you must march to get a message out. And then you go on by saying "we don't have to march because the president is doing the right thing." Make your mind up first you want Palestine dead and then your calling it the wrong thing to do. Iraq can't be linked to any of the terrorist attacks taken out on September 11th so we have no reason to make rubble out of Iraq.

Nothing ever got done by sitting on your --- JWB. Take blacks for instance if they sat on there --- and did not stand for what is right idiots would still be pounding them hoses. If we did not revolt against England we would still be under them.

Confused youth your facts are flawed, The president does tell Israel to withdraw, which I don't particularly agree with, but (MOST) of what he has said has been correct..

"It is the palestines fault they are in this situation..."

[quote:812b1bbf3f]Iraq can't be linked to any of the terrorist attacks taken out on September 11th so we have no reason to make rubble out of Iraq.[/quote:812b1bbf3f] Iraq harbors terrorist, and pays $25000 per dead westerner, if you think thats just "ok" then you have issues.

ConfusedYouth

We the United States has also harbored terrorist before 9/11 and they still harbor Israel so you must have issues because I know you support the United States. There are reports of us giving large amounts of money to terrorist groups before 9/11 because of the United States own ----ing interest and because of are interest we ended up killing are own kind. You must have issues you support the killing of over 5,000 civilians and your saying I have issues don't make me laugh....

Do you have any credible source that that information came from??

No matter WHAT you say if you think $25000 per dead westerner is just "ok" then you do have issues.

ConfusedYouth

Indeed I don't support that at all. But how can you tell someone they have issues about the $25000 per dead westerners when you support the deaths of 5,000 inoccent civilians it controdicts its self. When you support the death penlty.

Why do people kill people who are killing people to prove that killing people is wrong. -Unknown

I dont suport killing people to show killing people is wrong, I support if you kill someone you will get killed, if you attack america you get blown up. It's like in prison if you let a bunch of dudes beat up all over you and just say "lets be friends" you'll come out not being able to sit down the rest of your life.. If you show who is boss people wont mess with you.

ConfusedYouth

You don't support the killing of others to show that killing is wrong but yet you said I support the fact if you kill someone you should get killed. It is the exact samething just worded diffrently. Don't condrodict your self. And infact if you show someone else peace, love, and unity than that word will spread making others peaceful, loving, and willing to unite.

I didnt contradict myself, Im not saying that killing a human is wrong, for self defense or punishment it's just fine.. Im sorry if I cant explain it any more to you!! :)

You still didn't post if you had any credible sources for all these "civilians" we've murdered beside the leaflets that the taliban dropped.. I mean a credible non-biased site??

ConfusedYouth

It still contradicts its self you say killing a human is wrong but yet your still supporting that is killing innocent civilians who have done nothing wrong to be punished for!

It has been on the World News and even some of are own political leaders have came out and said that the United States has funded terrorist groups for are countries own interest like oil and etc....

ConfusedYouth

But then you said killing a human is wrong and they should be killed because of it. But explain to me why innocent children mothers and fathers are dying and you still support a war that is killing these innocent people.

Infact that is how I came up with that fact from watching the World News and local news also BBC said something about it.

Sadly enough the sand from his head being to deep have blinded him from the truth. He belives his country can do not wrong when in reality the United States is a cancer to the world. These right-wingers would never stop to think for them selves instead they allow the media and filthy politicians to brainwash them. As you can see for example from previous threads. I've opposed of Christopher Columbus day because of the genocide that was taken out on the native americans but these right-wingers betray him as a great person because the media and history books betray him that way. Another example is Israel-Palestine conflict luckly a majority of the country opposes US aid to Israel according to the recent polls but there is those few brainwashed that will belive anything GWB or the media feeds them. GWB is responsable for one of the biggest money scandles in american history I call it ENRON! I would not belive him for anything. The war on terrorism they refuse to see the alternative methods and would rather kill and get it over with quickly. They refuse to look at the past ten years and see bombing terrorist only leads to more terrorism. But those brianwashed right-wingers continute to allow meidas and politicans to brainwash them.

They refuse to see the truth for they think it's un-patriotic when in reality there the one betraying this country.
