Do you believe a person should only marry someone that is of the same religion as they are? If they did marry with different religions, which religion should they teach their children?

i don't think people should ever be forced into marrying people of the same religion if they don't want to. you should be able to marry who you love regardless of thier religion, race, or social standing. my dad is jewish and my mom is quaker, and they didn't raise me with any preference towards either religion. i ended up an atheist, with an affinity towards jewish culture.

They should be perfectly free to marry, if they want to. Not if they don't.

As for their children, no matter WHAT religion the parents are, I think the kids should know what religion Mommy and Daddy are, and be able to make the choice for themselves. They should be taught about lots of different religions and given the choice.

I agree, you can't make anyone believe in a certain religion, they should be able to choose. As for marrying someone with the same religion as you I just think it depends how strongly you believe in your religion.

In the household that I grew up in an individual's religion was considered to be as important a part of who they were as was their ethnic background. My father had a different slang term for each & every individual / group that was not of Irish (southern) Catholic descent. Sort of like growing up with Archie Bunker. When I began dating, my parents' first question regarding the young lady was to ensure her being of the Roman Catholic faith, then Irish. My parents grew up during the 1930's & 1940's. Very different times from today.

So did you marry a nice Irish Catholic girl?

ES that was how it was for me also, my father was born in the 20's and my mother in the 30's. My father wasn't quite as pushy on the religion stuff but still everyone and everything had its place.

Archie was the best I still laugh like heck when I watch the reruns. Do you remember the episode were he got locked in his cellar, found a bottle of liquor, and got drunk. Then a black guy came along and found him, he thought the black dude was God. :D :D :D

I'm jewish, and I have loads of pressure to marry a jewish guy, even though my whole fmaily knows I'm an athiest. I just can't see the correlation between religion and love. I think kids should be taught about their heritage, and subsequently, their parents religions/beeliefs. I DON'T appreciate my rents sending me to parochial school for so long. but I do appreciate my culture, even though I'm an ahtiest. sputnik and I go to a camp/youth movement that is the noly secualar jewish place left in the U.S. that's the way kids should be taught about their parents religion, in a way that lets them choose whether they like it or not, and decide for themsleves.

yeah, even at shomria, which is hugely liberal and socialist and not religious at all, some people reacted a little strangely when they heard that my parents were a "mixed marriage."

and whammy, hashomer isn't the only secular jewish youth movement in the us. habonim is secular.

I went to a catholic school up until I hit ninth grade. I don't know if anybody else had to go through such torture but let me tell you it is the worst type of school you can go to...(the nuns are mean lol)! Of course they forced us to marry w/in their little "cult" but my parents said I could chose and now I am a southern baptist!

It was a joke ugababe. Were you born without a sense of humor or did you have it surgically removed? If the prayers of an atheist mean anything, I "pray" that you lighten up a little

See that's what's so funny about you assuming what my personality is like. If you REALLY knew me you would know that I have a HUGE sense of humor until it comes down to the fact that it's immature and stupid. You got on my bad side a long time ago, so your jokes will never "lighten" me up...I don't like you which means I don't like anything about you i.e. YOUR JOKES!

Pagan's point, I think, was that just as you have very strong beliefs about your religion, most Catholic nuns and priests are of the opinion that if you're not Catholic, you're going to hell.

I shall be redundant and also probably rather naive: LIGHTEN UP!

I suggest to those unfamiliar with the Southern Baptist cult to research it just a little. Doing so will provide you with more insight into their collective insanity. Essentially, they're hypocrites. Won't even acknowledge one another in the liquor store, let alone the adult bookstores!

Wait, are they the ones who say it is a sin for a woman to have short hair? Wait, or was it a sin to be a woman period?
Seriously, I came across that it was a sin for a woman to have short hair, I believe it was a Southern Baptist website, I know it wasn't Landover Baptist(man, that site kicks ass).
One question(since search results aren't giving me shit), what is Jerry Falwell and Pat Robensen? And that other dude who does the 700 club(that thing makes me sick). All I know is that they are some form of baptist.

You do realize that The Landover Baptist website is satire right?

at pat robertson is the guy who does the 700 club. and yes, he does make me sick. he's probably got a few screws loose too. i mean, the guy hears voices that no one else can hear...i think this may be a sign that it's time to ship ol' pat off to the looney bin
