In several years, I see myself wanting to get a house in a place I know I'll be happy living for a long time (10+ years). In fact, when I live there I want to feel like there is nowhere else I'd rather be. The big question I've always had in mind though, is how one finds out? How can you go about finding such a place? Do you actually go into every possible city for a weekend? That can't be practical. Do you just check out statistics? That's can't be enough. Once you have a list of candidates, how do you really determine which that perfect home city is? If you've not considered enough places, how can you sleep well knowing hmm, maybe I'd have been happier living in another place? Did some of you even make such choices, or did you just adjust yourself to wherever you ended up living in?

The truth is, I am really considering compile a candidate list and visit candidate cities one by one before I actually settle down and buy a home.

If you plan to do this in ten years… then just wait forten years ! By this time, you will certainly have found the answer. Because choosing a place where you want to spend a big part of your life is not like choosing the best place to go in holidays. It has to be a part of your life - a place where there are people you like, a place where you have something to do. It depends from your own story and nobody but you can decide where it is.

Some people say when they walked into thier house before they bought it they just got an overwhelming feeling. They just knew this is it. I think the house is more important than the city. I would pick my 5 favorite cities and just sort of browse through houses until i got that feeling. You can't toture yourself with thoughts of "What if i didn't do this or that" or you will never be happy.
