Im not sure if this is the proper place to be doing this but i am a little confused. I have somewhat lost faith that there is a God and that Christianity is the way, the truth, and the light. I feel this way just because there are so many alternatives out there. I am very interested in the ideas of Buddah. It is such a peaceful religion. I guess what im trying to figure out is if it would be contradictory for me to follow the ideas of buddah while still considering myself a christian. I just feel like the Bible is so, i dont know, maybe vague? I mean is it really possible to live the way the Bible wants in todays world? And if it is not does that mean we are all going to hell? I wish things were a little more concrete because no one knows what happens when we die, and who is to say that the Jews are wrong, or the Mormans, or the Muslims, etc. I feel very deeply that if you be a good person and live a good life, being as helpful and kind as you possibly can that you will go to a good place in the afterlife, regardless of what religion you followed on earth. Can you tell im a little confused? Any opinions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, the only way to consider yourself a CHristian is if you believe that Jesus Christ was the son of God, died for us on the cross, and was later reincarnated. It's not completely necessary to believe the entire Bible, in fact it'd make you a downright sheep if you believed everything in the Bible was the word of God.
You can follow the teachings of Buddha and still consider yourself a Christian, except for the fact that Buddhists generally do not believe in an afterlife.
The most important thing to remember, though, is only you can make this decision. We cannot make it for you. I recommend you study Buddhism more and, if you go to church, talk to your pastor/priest/whatever he/she's called.
Good luck in your search, Alex. :)

in a religion i generally look for these two things:
1. it is the truth
2. it makes me happpy and floats my boat
i haven't found the first in any of the religions out there, and i've found the second to varying degrees in all of them.
so i dont think you sound any more confused than the rest of us. whatever we may like to think we're all in the same boat, trying to find truth and happiness even though we're all so tiny and insignificant compared to the rest of the universe.

The whole goal for everyone is to be happy in life. Whatever gives you this, be it a belief in an afterlife or living out this life to it's fullest, just reach for it.
Personally I find it entertaining to seek the truths and falsehoods presented from all religions. I believe this is the only life we have and living it to its fullest is my goal. Thats what makes me happy.
Being successful, competeing, accomplishing, making good friends and sticking with them. I don't think you need to follow another code written by someone else telling you what you need to do.
Do what makes you happy, don't worry too much about what others think is right and wrong. Worry about your future, your present and what you think will give you the most sense of pride, accomplishment and happiness.

I was listening to a show the other night and this guy came on and said he looks at all religions. No "one religion" is correct but take them and put them together and they all hold "alittle" truth. Like others have said do what you feel in your heart, don't listen to the ones that force a belief on you. My understanding of a Christian is the belief in Jesus, not a book written by humans.
