I believe the answer to that question wuz first deduced in the year... 1296... (I remember the year 'cuz it just happens ta equal six ta the fourth power, wunna my favorite numbers! I like usin' mnemonic devices! ;))

As fer yer question, lemmee think... Cats generally have TWO four legs and TWO hind legs, and men usually get buried SIX feet under, even though they ordinarily have only TWO shoes apiece...

This is gettin' so convoluted, I'm gonna hafta ponder it fer awhile! But thanks fer the question, anywayz!

Did I mention that in the year 1296, one-legged cats were all too common in math puzzles?

I've heard tell that in the year 5184, all cats in math problems will probably be of the four-legged variety... (Mnemonic device fer rememberin' my second favorite year: six ta the fourth power multiplied by four...)

Hmmm, I wunder just how fur yer gonna let me go with these catty math jokes???

On the other hand, whuddabout this line of reasonin'?

6 men * 2 legs = 12 man legs

6*6*6*6 cats = 1296 cats * 4 legs = 5184 cat legs

12 man legs + 5184 cat legs = 5196 generic legs at yer local

butchers

And that would be my... FINAL... answer, Regis!

Did I win a million?

It's been said that Einstein's advanced math proved space is curved...

That bein' the case, I would surmise then, that even so-called

STRAIGHT thinkin' must be... warped! (Which "explains away" my

first two "answers"...)

Toodles, my fellow math whizzes! :D

Well tried, IOW…
but for me the right answer is
6x2 (for men)
+ 6x6x6x4 (for cats)

12+864=876 legs

why not 6x6x6x6x4 ?

Because "each cat has six kittens" but Vone never wrote that these kittens are in the bags.

Am I right ?

I got 876 as well, not counting kittens.

OK, another animal puzzle:

A young man works on a farm. His boss gives him $100.00 and sends him to the stockyards with these instructions: Purchase exactly 100 animals, spend exactly $100.00. Animals are priced thusly:

Cows $10.00
Sheep $ 5.00
Pigs $ 0.50

Buy in any combination and number to achieve $100.00 spent = 100 animals purchased.
