Hillary Has To Run As An Independent To Have Any Chance At All (http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/hillary_has_to_run_as_an_independent_to_have_any_c hance_at_all/)
Obama may have gotten the delegates he needs but the Democrats have never fielded a weaker candidate.
He just lost eight of the last fifteen primaries and as of now (depending on which source you read) Hillary has the edge in the popular vote. If she leaves the Dems and takes those voters with her, Obama’s in trouble.
Not only that, there are a lot of disaffected Republicans out there at the moment who don’t like McCain. She could get quite a chunk of those spite votes as well.
The DNC didn’t do itself any favors by cutting the Michigan and Florida voters off at the knees, either. By doing that they showed that they’re falling all over themselves to get Obama the nomination despite their “make every vote count” campaign of a few years ago. When it was to their advantage to make every vote count, of course.
The danger Hillary would face if she chose an Independent run would be two fold:
If she derails Obama and doesn’t get elected and another Republican sits in the White House, she’ll be a political leper. And - if she runs and does get elected, knocking out the Chosen One, she’ll face a potentially hostile Democratic Congress and may start her presidency as a lame duck. And it would most likely be all downhill for her from there.
If she ever wants to be president, though, she needs to make a move right now. In a week she’ll be out in the cold. And in four years she’ll be political history.
I think she should roll the dice and run as an Independent. At the very least it would keep Obama out and put McCain in. And you never know....politics being what they are, she just may win as an Independent. She won’t win as a Democrat. She’s done.
The only way Obama can avoid disaster in November - either because of her running as an Independent or her angry Dem voters switching to McCain - will be to hold his nose and pick her as his VP. That would re-unite the Democrats and they may have a chance then.
I could be wrong, of course.
Either way I stick to my slogan: Election ‘08 - We Are So screwed.
