I think a pretty good reason for the lack of new posters is the fact that all people post about around here is the uninteresting to everybody else squabbling over the left-right political paradigm that really is only thought relevant in the United States by the less than sophisticated.

Nappy is right. The site is getting stale. All we post is the same old, same old.
We have lost some great posters; Astrapol, Turd Ferguson, Sparky, Red,
500poundguerilla, blibblob, and the list goes on and on.
All sites have changes in membership but lately we have been losing people and not replacing them with new people.

Me and you should stage another battle, Frogger. Those seem to have been lively.
Seriously though, I've thought about starting a forum where the only political discussion allowed was non-partisan. No bitching about the left or the right, threads started with that aim would be closed.
Perhaps a better idea would be to have the long term members of the forum each responsible for posting threads regarding a certain topic. We could stay away from US politics and current events for awhile and make a group effort to discuss stuff like foreign news and events, history, other philosophical topics.
Wikipedia has something they call Barn Stars, which are little awards given out to posters to thank them for their contributions to the 'pedia. Perhaps we could implement something like that on AFN?
Our little community has become entirely too stale. We all know each other too well and mystery makes for some great threads. Like the battles we all fought when I came and nobody knew quite what to make of me. Maybe we could form a "welcoming committee" of like four or five posters, two of which would challenge and bait the newbies into a good-natured fight, and the other three would back them up. It could go on for a little while, then we would all drop the ruse, congratulate them on being a good sport, and welcome them into the community. Little dramas like that would get more people to stick around.

I'd have to agree, although I think some of it has to do with there not being anything particularly interesting to discuss (amazing, considering it's an election year). I suspect if we see a democrat in the White House things will pick up a little bit just because there will be new things to discuss, and all of the partisan hacks will instantly change their stances on just about everything.

I think there are plenty of interesting things to discuss, it's just that we all know how the discussion will pan out. There are a few on here that want to see all political discussions as a "right versus left" of a "democrat versus republican" theme. They usually go on to monopolize the thread and turn it into yet another partisan pissing match.
Very few, if any, people are purely "conservative" or completely "liberal", it's just that there are some here that will always argue this way (without any true wisdom) and make those who want to actually discuss the real issues go away.

There have been many intersting topics to discuss, like global warming, the dangers of cell phone use, aerial sprayings, the harm of vaccines, ETC. but the discussions rapidly turn to one-sided slams.
I've been called a few foul names while trying to view my thoughts on certain topics that I find extremely important. 90% of the posters on this board are so completely one-sided, it makes me ill. They won't even TRY to hear another's opinion and the funny thing is, that other opinion is certainly worth listening to and many times right, but it doesn't even go that far. They, (me and a few others) get shot down and stomped on, only minutes after posting our thoughts.
I don't think that is very bright to always do that. The "I'm right and you are wrong" mentalilty of this forum is nauseating to say the least.
In other words..... Gee, I wonder why so many posters have LEFT AllForums?
The time to get a clue has long passed by.

Yes, I have noticed Frogger and I agree. It seems everyone has the need to be right no matter what the cause. and the debating skills are no longer alive, it's turned to insults and grade 3 behavior.
I've even calmed my jets and am no where near a bitch I used to be, maybe that my problem. I'm just to damn happy in real life to be so bitchy on the net.
Maybe I'll just have to use AF as a sparring board to flame and post intelligent discussions elsewhere, so I probly won't be around much either.

I tried to get one of my friends to join Allforums, and he was turned off by pretty much that exact problem. I've been doing my part to yell at the partisan tools on both sides to stop being such partisan tools, but to no avail. My David Attenborough routine has promise, though; I need to refine it more and try to get it to be a bit more effective.
Sidebar, though: When Allforums was in its infancy, partisan hackery was pretty common. Most of the political discussions were dominated by two prototypical Republican types (DaveTooner and Trav, though Trav has matured and grown more independent since) and two prototypical Democrat types (J_Lively and ConfusedYouth, though both of those were fairly interesting sorts, or at least I thought so at the time). I popped in and, being 14 and a political n00b, ended up becoming a prototypical 14-year-old socialist type. Luckily, I grew out of that.

ITA, Fool. On my little Vile-inspired hiatus, I tooled around some other sites and what I found was this... internet whining is a national pasttime. Libs whine about Cons... Cons whine about Libs. Foreigners whine about Americans... Americans whine about foreigners. Men whine about women... women whine about men. And of course, needless to say... Reps whine about Dems and Dems whine about Reps. Libertarians stand back and wring their hands and wish everybody would just get along.
My friend Musiq found a great site to escape all the above... the Disney message boards. Unfortunately, she also found the exchanges there sickeningly sweet and basically meaningless.
Which leaves us with AFN... warts & all.

You're right, Canadianreader, but not totally right. We have you and Shorty from Canada and Paul from Ireland. We used to have Astrapol from France, Red from England and Shorty's Aussie. We also have an occasional poster from Japan, and have had posters from Italy and Abu Dhabi.
I would love it if we could get more of an international crowd but it seems we Americans are far too provincial to care about what is happening in other countries.
Maybe if we started posting articles from some of the European, Canadian, Near Eastern papers and magazines it would help.
There was that interesting story of the German father who locked his daughter in the basement for years and fathered a half dozen children from her, there are lots of interesting articles from Canada and Great Britain always has a lot going on.
Look at what is happening in Israel with Ehud Olmert. That could short circuit peace talks between Israel and Syria yet not a word about it in AFN.
I'll do my part to try to find interesting topics that are not necessarily American. Maybe others can also try.

And they all have elaborate signatures showing how many times they've been to Disney World and how many kids they have and how old they are and all sorts of crap no one gives a damn about.

Hey frog we Canadian's told Joe Clark to fuck off and are back calling ourselfs Americians.

In fact many a Canadian came to America to ply their schtick.
John Candy and Dan Ackroid,William Shatner and Michael J. Fox.

idk....when I first started posting here you were upbeat and always joking around and stuff. I don't see you do much of that anymore,or maybe I take some of your posts too literal cause I am used to you like I remember you from when I first started posting.

If you feel you're being "ganged up" on it's because you are worse than a woman who has PMS,Menopause and pregnancy hormones all rolled into one. You don't see when someone is joking around with you and you come back with dumb remarks that make you look bad and makes others not want to assoiciate with you.
