Does he sound like he knows what he's talking about? Yeah. Would I try that without knowing what he's talking about? NO.

I've not heard of this AVI preview problem, but the registry hack he talks about seems a plausible fix. However, he never mentioned that you should always back up your registry before monkeying with it. That's a pretty glaring omission, to be honest, especially if you're dealing with inexperienced users who have no idea what a registry is, how it could get corrupted, or why you would ever need a backup.

Also, it sounds like he was speaking into a tin can.
