A new species of ant has invaded the Houston, Texas area and surrounding counties.
According to experts, they're impossible to get rid of, the colonies have multiple queens, and they bite humans.

Remember those tales Grandma would tell about tarantulas in bananas and to beware of bananas at the grocery store???

Well, turns out Granny was right. (Granny was ALWAYS right.
Just ask Grandpa, but anyhoo.....)

I was going through some 1893 newspapers the other day and ran across this story from Lebanon, Indiana.
A grocery clerk was bitten by a huge tarantula hiding in a big bunch of banans. Upon further inspection, a nest of TWO HUNDRED UGLY FAT DEADLY SPIDERS was found in another big bunch.

That was all that was in the story.

Sweet dreams........

Hopefully these imported ants will learn to eat mosquitos... then Houston would welcome them with open arms!

Yeah... we decided it would be fun to live 'in the country' one time and rented a place on 18 acres. House was made of those big red sandstone rocks that I later found out are a haven for spiders and scorpions! Got used to opening the under-sink cabinets with a broom handle after about the 3rd time I came face to face with a tarantula, raring up on his/her back legs at me. Finally moved when the old man got stung on the butt by a scorpion in the middle of the night!

~shudder~

No likes critters that bite/sting/scare hell outta me.

My ex, bless his miserable heart, once was stung by a wasp while he was snoozing in bed, which was something he did frequently.

He later accused me of smuggling in the wasp and planting it in the bed (that I also slept in) just for fun/or to be mean.

What a ninny--if I'd a meant to kill him, there would have been a rattlesnake in there ( who, after biting him, probably woulda died from extreme alcohol poisoning).

1. After that escapade, he slept in the shed.

2. It was funny anyway--but not as funny as when my mom was stung on the butt by a bee and several days later, decided she was dying of a toxic bee sting and drove herself to the emergency room.

We're a nice family.
