Russia expels U.S. military attachés
Story Highlights
Russia orders two American military attachés to leave country
Move follows recent expulsion of pair of Russian diplomats from U.S.
U.S. officials play down link between incidents
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Russia has ordered two American military attachés at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow to leave the country following the expulsion of a pair of Russian diplomats from Washington, U.S officials said Thursday.
With the appointment of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev (right), U.S-Russian relations remain uncertain.
"We can confirm that the two individuals have been asked to leave," said Gonzalo Gallegos, a U.S. State Department spokesman. "We object to this action but we will comply with the Russian government's request."
In Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry declined to comment.
U.S. officials played down any linkage between the expulsions of the Americans, which were ordered on April 28, and the U.S. decisions to expel the Russian military attachés. One Russian military officer was ordered to leave Washington on November 6, 2007. The second was ordered to leave on April 22, officials said.
One official, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, said the United States viewed them as "separate incidents."
The officials declined to discuss the reason for the expulsions, but noted that none of the military attachés involved had been declared "persona non grata" or was accused of specific wrongful conduct, such as espionage.
News of the expulsions comes at a time of uncertainty in U.S.-Russian relations with the arrival in power on Wednesday of new Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and his former boss Vladimir Putin becoming Prime Minister.

Well recent bomber flights from Russia comming through the Atlantic have been sucessful at flying over US ships twice before intercepting them on the way back home , it looks bad for the US. Thankfully Canada can stop them entering our space, and challenge them every time they try to get through.

We fly from land and your war ships seems to let them through the Atlantic why because you can not afford to operate the things probably. Well anyways Russia can strike the US from Russia.

Its not Canada fault the Alantic isn't covered because we would build carriers if they were wanted. You got to zones to cover and we got the middle. Spend some more dough or ask for help.

:lolhit: ... This is just too much.
U.S. Military Expenditures in 2008: $583,283,000,000
Canada Military Expenditures in 2008: $17,150,002,540
(Both figures in U.S. dollars - from here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_military_expenditures)).
So, it looks like we spend more than 30 times as much as you guys do... And you're the ones who can "afford" to protect America from Russia?

last time I check we Canadian paid nearly $500 each and the US $600 each citizen for defence. Just divide your number by our populations.

The states have to ask us because we have been asked to stand down building our own two carries in the past. Recently we were ask not to build patrol boats for the North East passage and we ingnored that however Canadian carriers would need US carrier aircraft and not Russian aircraft or Europes I think. I believe we can build them and probally staff them.

Nice math there, retard, but given the figures, that's impossible.
Canada Military Expenditures in 2008: $17,150,002,540
And a good portion of that check was made payable to the US, I might add.

Well you add in Iraq and there's the new figure I guess. The US should have listened to Canada. So why should we add Iraq to the North American defence figures.

Why? what don't you understand about the US air-carriers in the Atlantic? not challenging Russian Bombers in a real scenario I suspect there no second chances and the ships get sunk.
