This season sucks! They got rid of the Aussie, who was good. And now this little homo (archuleta) is everyone's darling. His singing is nothing special. Black people have been singing like that for over 40 years.
It is American Idol after all, not Hondurian Homo!:D just kidding.

American Idol isn't that bad...I usually hover between the TV and the computer so when they get to the stupid parts (read: when people aren't singing/being judged) I can just do something else. Simon cracks me up.
David Cook is really the only one worth a shit.

They're so obviously pushing Archuleta it's disgusting. I think David Cook is the best, although he strikes me as a bit of an asshole.

Yeah, since we don't care to vote, we DVR or PVR or TIVO or whateever you want to call it, and watch it the next day and skip through all intros, interviews, and ads. We just watch the singing and judges. You can watch a whole hour in like 15 minutes. Its great!!

We missed the last two seasons since we were in Dubai, and they were atleast two years behind the showing the series.

Exactly - and you can fastforward through Paula. Even better - you can watch the elimination show in 10 seconds.

I'm a little warped (shut up, Nappy)... I like American Idol's first few shows when the really BAD people are on. Once they get it narrowed down to people who can actually sing, I lose interest.
Heard this morning the dredlocked guy from near Dallas was sent home last night... and he seemed pretty happy about it. Guess forgetting the lyrics on an earlier show put a lot of pressure on him and he was glad to get out.

I couldn't stand his whiney style of singing. Every song...whine whine whine

When the show first began it was about talent. It is now a popularity contest and talent has very little to do with it. I stopped watching it midway through this season when I noticed that trend.

I stay away, refuse to watch it. It kinda burns my ass to see people get a free ride to the top when other musicians, who are just as skilled, have been working for 15 years and don't get the popularity or gigs that these teeny-boppers do. It's all about how "cute" someone is... not about music.

I might watch it more often if they didn't play cover songs. I want to see some original stuff that they write themselves. I want to see the really skilled artists who can do it all...write, sing and play an instrument. That, to me, is when the true talent comes out. Not who can do a cover of some Whitney Houston song. I mean I know a lot of people who can sing but that doesn't mean I wanna hear them on the radio.

True. But they aren't trying to pass it of as anything deep. It is just fun! Nobody is saying or believing that these people are great "artists"!

It's a slow, trickling effect Mesk..
You pretty much completely overcover and embrace these nobodies, they become celebrities because of all the coverage, people nowadays love reality TV because they have no lives of their own, the people on Idol come out with their "own music" (buy it from song writers), the Idol masses flock to their concerts and buy their CD's, today's ego makes the consumer think that any music they listen to is the best music, they find something in nothing and become so emotionally attached and mark out for something is completely fake and unrealistic. It's brilliantly done by TV execs, they really know how to drag these marks in, hook line and sinker.

So what if somebody wins American Idol? It still doesn't necessarily mean that they're going to become famous once their tenure on the show is completed. Besides, once they're gone, they still have to write their own music afterwards to have a shot at remaining on top.
Think of it as though they're being born, working their way through school, graduating High School by winning or going far in the competition, and once the show is over, they're out on their own in the real world, where, if they want to be successful, YES, they have to work for it.

I would make the comparison like a 6'1" guy and a 7'1" guy both trying to make it in the NBA. The 7'1" guy is American Idol, they have a platform and fanbase BEFORE THEIR FIRST SONG. Meanwhile... other people are busting their asses every night on the road... playing small gigs and trying to make a living while these ass clowns get a free pass to the top.

American Idol is pure garbage, plain and simple. If you don't write your own music you are not a mucisian, you are a puppet.
