Woman, 81, beaten in road rage incident

INDIANAPOLIS, May 2 (UPI) -- Indianapolis police say a young driver enraged by an elderly woman she thought was driving too slowly beat her so severely her leg was broken in 14 places.

Jessica Vasquez was arrested late Wednesday, several hours after Evelyn Page, 81, was assaulted, WRTV reported.

"This is a crime that is outrageous, something that we don't normally see," said Police Detective Wendall Daniel. "We don't normally see a female, 19 years old, beating an 81-year-old woman."

Vasquez allegedly passed Page and then stopped abruptly, blocking her way and forcing Page to stop as well. She allegedly went to Page's car, hit her, pulled her out and continued assaulting her.

Witnesses got a license plate number, leading to Vasquez's arrest. Police said Vasquez had several young children with her at the time of the attack.

My Grandpa was a very slow driver. His top speed was probably 35 mph--on the interstate yet.

I'm sure he bothered many a motorist and probably made more than a few mad, but the idea of someone pulling him out of his car and beating him infuriates me. He was an old man--all old people drive slow! (or most do).

The woman in the story stuck her tongue out for the cameras on her way to the courthouse. She also said she was sorry the old lady got hurt, but hey--just one of those things. She's a lovely person--lovely. Hopefully she'll be breaking up rocks for the next 25 years, and maybe if we're all lucky, a boulder will conveniently land on her head.

Yeah, she just wanted to beat the crap out of her, not hurt her! Sadly, those kids are already doomed at their young age.

The other 'ladies' in prison will probably see to it that she gets that boulder. At least I hope so.

My elderly step-dad drives slow, too. But then again, so do idiots talking on cell phones. Where's that 19 year old psycho when you need her?

Are you asking for a definition of 'slow' as relates to elderly men or morons on cell phones??

:lolhit:

slow = 35-50 mph on a freeway, 20-25 mph on a side street

Damned old lady deserved it. Who the hell does she think she is, driving on public roads. Everyone knows those roads are meant to be reserved for young people who go fifteen miles over the speed limit, zip in and out of traffic, tailgate and are generally always in a hurry to get somewhere.

If old people want to drive they should buy four or five acres and drive a lawn mower around their yard.

Way to go, Jessica Vasquez

I put the cruise control at six to eight miles above the posted speed limit, except in Virginia which is notorius for pulling people over.

I do stop along the way though, both going to Florida and going to Long Island. This year I stopped in Charleston for two days on the way down and in Orlando for two days (visited Animal Kingdom and Sea World) and Williamsburg (visited historic Williamsburg).

Mikey,

You don't have to stop at restrooms if you wear Depends. I learned that trick from that crazy astronaut woman.:lolhit:

Michelle,

Yep, little mini-vacations. We already have next year's return trip planned. We will veer west to Nashville for a few days and then go to Pigeon Forge for a few days. From there we will visit our son in Deleware and then our son in Pennsylvania before winding up in our driveway.

On the way down we will probably stop in Charleston again because we love thaat city. Or perhaps we will spend a day or two in St. Augustine.

Thanks Frogger, now every ole man I see around I'm going to relate them to diapers. Ewww.

I dont know how you can win. Two women drivers, neither should be on the road kets face it.

Ive always said, let the driving test include changing a tyre-end of women drivers.

Simple-the solution not the women.

Excuse you?
That is hardly fair to lump all women drivers with the few that are idiots. Not all of us drive like maniacs.
As for changing tires on a car, more women do know how to change a tire myself included. I've just been lucky enough to never have to do so.

I am reminded of the evening I had a pet sitting job out in the woods, at the end of a couple miles of gravel road. My (new to me) half-ton 4WD Silverado had no trouble with the ruts, but somewhere along the way, the rocky, ragged road killed my left rear tire. Got to the house and took care of the pets, then went out in the vast inky blackness to deal with that damned tire.

Never having owned a truck, it took some looking to find the spare, and oh joys! It's a full-blown, big ass tire, bolted to the undercarriage of the truck. The tire removal appliance - a long, bent rod with a little cup at one end that I eventually located underneath the back seat - had to be threaded through the bumper hitch, down a narrow shaft, so that the cup at the end could be fixed over some sort of bolt-like apparatus way down inside.

Remember, this is in total darkness in the middle of the woods.

Finally got the cup seated and began cranking, praying the cup didn't slip off the bolt. Crank crank crank crank crank crank. Slip. Curse. Rant. Curse some more. Re-thread. Crank crank crank crank crank crank crank. Crank crank crank crank crank.

Once I managed to unscrew and lower the tire, and wiggle it loose from the now-dangling holding bars, I dug around under the back seat again to find a crank jack and tire iron.

Crank crank crank crank crank crank crank crank crank crank crank crank crank. Crank crank crank crank crank crank crank crank crank. Crank crank crank crank crank crank crank crank crank crank crank. (You need a lot of clearance to change a truck tire.) Crank.

Remember, this is in total darkness in the middle of the woods.

Whack the lug nuts until they unfreeze and remove them. Wrestle the old tire off the lugs and the spare tire onto them. Tighten the lug nuts and lower the truck. Crank crank crank crank crank crank. Crank crank crank crank crank crank crank crank crank. Crank. Crank crank crank crank crank crank crank crank.

Remember, this is in total darkness in the middle of the woods.

Fling flat into the back and rewind the undercarriage tire-holding apparatus so it doesn't drag or get caught on anything. Drive home.

Bite me, paul! :D

Actually,on my last car the tires were changed once when I bought new ones and the mounting was included with the purchase. Never had a flat or blow out. Now my ex on the other hand.........lets just say he couldn't change a tire if someone was a holding a shotgun to his head. And he's gotten more flat tires and tickets too. :D

Well, I wasn't at my house - I was doing an evening pet sitting visit for some people who were on vacation - and there was no way to get back to my home unless I fixed the tire first. I don't have AAA, and even if I did, they'd never be able to find me in the dark of winter in the middle of the woods. Plus, I had to take care of my own critters at home...

So, you know, I do what needs doing myself. :)

Good for you Fran! I have never changed a tire yet, I hope I never have to. Last one I had was at the bar a few years back, I just went back in and asked if any guys would do me a favor. Six of them came right over. Then I asked them to change my tire and all six of them went out and did it, hahaha.
I bought them all a couple rounds for their help, and was able to get on my way.

it's in the owner's manual, and if you don't have that, it's on a label on the jack too....and if you don't have that, you might as well call a wrecker because you're not going to be able to change the tire without a jack:drive:

I wouldn't mind learning, but I'd be afraid I'd put the jack in the wrong place and screw something up. Plus at tight as they put the lug nuts on,I doubt I'd ever be able to loosen them anyway.

Please don't tell me you tightened the lug nuts while the truck was still up on the jack! And usually there's a button you can press to release the jack.

on the old GM bumper jacks and bottle jacks there's another trick (depending on the manufacturer) but scissor jacks you have to crank back down...but it's easier with gravity helping you:thumbs:

and of course you tighten them while it's still up, if the lug nuts aren't properly seated, you can't torque them when you get back on the ground.:drive:

You should definitely start screwing them on while the vehicle is still on the jack. You don't want to tighten them with the tire iron until after the vehicle is safely off the jack, but you're asking for trouble if you lower the jack without starting the lugs by hand.

This is exactly what happened. I do know enough to tighten twice - before and after the tire is on the ground.
