According to the Hong Kong human rights information center, on Wednesday December 24, police in central China detained a pastor for several hours over "illegal assembly" after he performed a Christmas service at his home.

80 residents in Fengqiu town of Henan Province gathered in pastor Liu ShanSongˇ¦s home to celebrate the Christmas Day. The detention took place at noon by Fengqiu police. They detained pastor Li and took away 11 holy bibles.

According to the center, Zhang Qiang, a police official, confirmed the incident when contacted by AFP by telephone. Pastor Li was released after having been detained for about eight hours.
Authorities have warned all institutes of higher learning to be on the alert against "illegal religious activities" during the Christmas holiday. All the religious activities which held outside the official church are identified ˇ§illegal.ˇ¨ The government says China has 15 million Protestants and five million Catholics in official churches. But according to the center, there are believed to be millions more - including an estimated 10 million Catholics - in 'underground' or 'home' churches, which refuse to submit to government meddling and identified ˇ§illegalˇ¨ churches.

Chinese authorities carried out what some critics consider one of the harshest crackdowns against underground Christians in the past year, with dozens of churches demolished and many worshippers arrested.

FREEDOM FROM RELIGION FOR ALL

No the article didn't "say" they were attempting to convert anyone, but since the participants in the ceremony/rite in question were not "born" into any particular faith, at some point in their lives they were brainwashed into believing christian propaganda. Perhaps I was in error in assuming that they were Buddhists originally, but at some point Christians went to China and converted people who were originally Buddhists. Why can't christians and all other religious people just keep their mythology to themselves?

I'm not sure what you are getting at Borg, are you saying that I distorted something?

Perhaps I did but since you didn't say what that was I can't respond.

Wow,

I'm stung by your rapier like wit Travh20, where ever did you come up with with such an intelligent response?

If you have something worthwhile to post other than childish insults and namecalling, please do.

Oh, now I get it that picture is of you! I think you should go, your diaper is so full it's leaking out of your mouth and spilling all over this forum.

We've been asking him that since he joined, and he has yet to make a post that doesn't insult or demean in some way. Example: "I think that we should be in Iraq because _____ _____ _____ ____ and those DIRTY LIBERALS don't want to get Saddam out of Iraq because they like him and agree with him."

Did I say that I saw myself that way?

Are you in anyway reminiscent of your name HAVOK?

It's a nickname. Get a grip.

And as far as being obnoxious goes, I think Trav's "assessment" falls under that category far more readily than anything I've posted.
