Labor was handed a resounding defeat in Great Britain as the Tories picked up even the mayoralty of London. This was a personal defeat for the anti-war, anti-Bush Prime Minister, Gordon Brown.

More and more governments are electing conservatives or at least repudiating liberals. Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Canada, Mexico, Columbia, the list goes on and on.

Perhaps the United States is not as hated around the world as some people think as more and more goverhment align their politics with ours.

Very few 'liberal' as you call them Governments are anti American, why would they be.

What they are is anti Bush, anti war.

The centre left patries are due a change after a decade in office, its always the same, people like a change after a set period.

Paul,

People keep saying they aren't anti-American, only anti-Bush. I call bullshit on that. It is a copout. People are anti-American. They are anti-the American way of life. They accuse us of being the world's bniggest polluter even though this isn't true no matter which criterium you use to measure pollution, total pollution of polution per unit of production. They are anti-our entir government. They are anti-our consumerism. They are anti-our manners. In short, they are anti-American. This anti-Americanism was fostered by the governments, ie. Canadian members of parliament calling our President a moron. The French government fostering anti-Americanism. TYhe German government doing the same.

The latest wave of elections has seen governments elected that are less anti-American and in many cases pro-American; Merkel, Sarkozy, Berlisconi, and now the British government.

No dont believe that Frogger. In Europe people can seperate Government from Nation.

example: Ireland is a nice country but its Government are corrupt fuckers, most Irish wouldnt be offended by that-because its true.

You Yanks wanna lighten up-no one outside the US like Bush-simple.

Your statement simply isn't true. President Bush is idolized in much of the former Eastern Bloc, he is adored in Albania, Africans love him. It is mainly the effete Europeans who do not like President Bush.

From my experience most of the people who condemn the US are not aiming their anger at Bush particularly. They are anti-American. They tend to be intellectually lazy people who desperately want just one thing to blame for pretty much everything. America fits the bill.

Re Boris Johnson being elected: Not only is it good for conservatives. It's gonna be a very entertaining time for Londoners. The bloke's a hoot!

Well maybe thats the view in Australia, but here, its simply not true.
Europe has a strong connection to the United States, its values and principles, enshrined in Constitution, a shining lite to the oppressed.

We simply hate seeing that moron and his cronies, trample over ideals that people cherish so much.

Frogger. If you dressed up as Uncle Sam and visited these places, youd be taken by the hand, same as Bush is.
These nations, especially East Europe, will do anything to break their link with Russia, Poland being a good example, with its enthusiasm for the missile shield nonsense, which is nothing more than a early warning system for America.

when did Europe get values? did we leave those behind when we liberated the France from the Vichy, and Germany from themselves?

how would you know, you claim allegiance to one of the many neutral countries that stood by and watched.

that's the sum of Euro-peon values-stand by and watch evil roll over the world, them watch the U.S. come and save your asses, again.

the sickening part is we keep doing it!

The Brits made some fucked up choices, thats a good one.
The British Empire made calculated choices of colonial conquest.
Any small country they could colonise without major resistance was in danger.

The Nais simply used German efficency on an industrial scale to eliminate people fast.

All in all, the two of them should have been allowed to destroy each other.
