NEW ORLEANS, April 24 (Reuters) - Republican U.S. presidential candidate John McCain on Thursday sharply criticized the Bush administration's handling of Hurricane Katrina and vowed, "Never again."
McCain, putting some distance between himself and fellow Republican President George W. Bush, said if he had been president during the 2005 catastrophe he would have immediately visited New Orleans during the initial shock aftermath of the killer storm.
"I'm just saying I would've landed my airplane at the nearest Air Force base and come over personally," he said.
Two days after the hurricane made landfall in August 2005, when immediate recovery efforts were chaotic, Bush surveyed the damage during a fly-over in Air Force One while returning from a trip to the West Coast.
On Thursday, McCain went on a tour of the lower Ninth Ward, a New Orleans neighborhood still struggling to recover from Katrina 2 1/2 years after the storm struck.
"I want to assure the people of the Ninth Ward, the people of New Orleans, the people of this country: Never again, never again will a disaster of this nature be handled in the terrible and disgraceful way it was handled," McCain said.
Later, talking to reporters on his campaign bus, McCain said "all levels of government are to blame for the catastrophe that took place."
"I'm not specifically singling the president out ... but he shares the blame, obviously," he said.

This is where McCain is a widdle Dweeb Liberal.
He ain't and I mean AIN'T No Teddy Roosevelt,Abe Lincoln or
Ronnie Reagan.
He's a Little showoff.A Ham.A media Darlin.
The onus of New Orleans is almost entirely the freefall incompetence of
Past and current mayor... Ray Nagin.
In fact, even after winning Re-election as Mayor,Nagin is almost
THE Sole reason certain wards have mad little progress.
Nagin, who has an MBA from Tulane,is alomst single-handidly holding -up
refurbishing efforts in certain sections of N.O.
McCain is again, trying to seperate himself from Bush by way of
making him the cause of what couldn't possibly a Presidents purview.
Republicans need have a warning when deciding to pull the level for
McCain.

"I want to assure the people of the Ninth Ward, the people of New Orleans, the people of this country: Never again, never again will a disaster of this nature be handled in the terrible and disgraceful way it was handled," McCain said.
It is truly astounding to hear such (seemingly progressive minded) words emanating from the mouth of a hard Right ConservaFascist politician (and a pathological lair, but I repeat myself) like John McCain.
It expresses (as the post of the imbecile known as Foolsworth amply illustrates) the virtual opposite of what the heart of the dimwitted Conservative faction -- iow, McCain's Gawd-Guns-N-Guts base-- believe and think.
What Mr. McCain imagines he stands to gain by spewing such a phony assed message --which we all know he has zero intention of following through on-- to the ignorant masses who follow him and support him is a complete mystery to me.
As IF elitist rightwingers like John McCain (or, instead insert in that spot the name of any well-known RightWing politician throughout the past 60 years) gives the slightest fuck what happens to poor people in this country who live in places like New Orleans.
It is to laugh.

even President Bush could filed and got a Shrimp boat License.

Yes. That is exactly what I am saying.
In the SAME way that they were shit out of luck under the abysmal Administration of B*shCo.
...if that same natural disaster happens under a Clinton or Obama presidency those same poor people are can look forward to rainbows and pots of gold?
Nope, no rainbows and posts of gold.
But yes, I'd say that --unlike what we saw during Katrina-- they can look forward to some small semblance of competent, effective emergency assistance.

Well I am conservative definetly. I am open to listening all sides but i simply have to dismiss alot of the liberals views as simple bullshit.
I do start alot of threads on various subjects and nine out of ten times I just watch them develop. There are so many interesting personalities here,it is very entertaining to watch a thread take off.
I definetly agree with a quote you post from time to time. about Democrats lie, republicans talk turkey...

does anyone else picture Foolie posting from a laptop while rocking in a chair on his front porch, yelling at kids to stay off his lawn?

does anyone else picture Foolie posting from a laptop while rocking in a chair on his front porch, yelling at kids to stay off his lawn?I see him alone in a darkened room.
A television in the corner is always on, tuned either to FoxNews (which he gleefully applauds), or MSNBC (at which he sporadically barks insults). The air is redolent with the lingering smells of days-old TV dinners and Swanson's pot pies (his favorite is turkey) and unwashed socks. His computer is 10 years old and held together with masking tape, a dog-eared book of quotations leans open against it. He glowers over a 13" monitor and pecks out his posts in two-finger fashion, occasionally laughing maniacally at his own imagined cleverness.

Mcain is a lib I guess. Symbolism over substance is a trademark. What would him going down there do to help anything?

That coincides very closely with how I picture the disturbed maniac going by that name......well, except for the deep pit nearby in the floor of the basement he's secluded himself in, that has a teenager trapped in the bottom of it, that Foolie saunters over to occasionally and screams down-- "It puts the lotion on it's skin or else it gets the hose again!"

The first line of defence is with the locals and the local government.
If the local government doesn't have it's act together, the the problems only get worse.
You can't blame the feds for all the busses that NO had but did not use.
The residents of NO were a few days warning. You can't blame the feds becasuse they did not leave.
But yes, I'd say that --unlike what we saw during Katrina-- they can look forward to some small semblance of competent, effective emergency assistance.

You're wrong on this one gm. FT and his brood can and will blame everything on the current powers that be in washington. It doesnt have to make sense or even be truthful, but they WILL have their mind already made up who is responsible.
