WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican U.S. presidential candidate John McCain accused North Carolina's Republican Party of being "out of touch with reality" over its refusal to pull an advertisement criticizing Democrat Barack Obama.

In an NBC interview aired on Friday, the Arizona senator said he has done all he can to persuade the state party to cancel the television ad that criticizes Obama as "too extreme" because of controversial remarks made by his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

"They're not listening to me because they're out of touch with reality and the Republican Party. We are the party of Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan and this kind of campaigning is unacceptable," McCain told NBC's "Today" Show.

"I've done everything that I can to repudiate and to see that this kind of campaigning does not continue," he added.

Asked if the state party's unwillingness to heed his call raised questions about his leadership, McCain replied: "I don't know exactly how to respond to that."

What i dont understand is that John McCain is doing the right thing and not endorcing these types of attacks, and going as so far as calling those people out..... and the big picture i see trying to be made is that John McCain cannot controll his political party.

can someone tell me what Mr. McCain could do in this situation to not be shown in a negative light? Or was that his fate no matter what in this inncident.

this reminds me of Mr. Obama and Rev. Wright. I guess your damned if you do or damned if you dont.

I heard the replay of the ad several times today.

Frankly, I don't see why McCain or anyone else had such a problem with it.

After all, it's what the Republicans ALWAYS do. Smear, smear, smear. It is to be expected......and unlike McCain, I for one do not see any reason why such an ad should not be aired.

Too bad the Democrats are such wimps and refuse to launch ads of their own that are equally critical --and damning-- of their far right opponents.

Before the 2004 election, the Democrats should have been spending megabucks on television ads repeating 24/7 --"Do you really want to re-elect a person and an Administration who committed treason and lied this country into an illegal and insanely expensive war in Iraq?"

But they didn't. The Democrats seem to want to play by very polite and genteel rules, while the Repukelicans --as exemplified by despicable scumsucking bastards like Karl Rove-- endlessly excoriate them with their gutter brand of political lies and maneuvering.

If yer askin,that a Presidential Candidate should play fair,be a Mr.Mom
nice guy and all will nicely fall into place,as if at Senior's Nite
at St.Brigid's monthly Bingo ,then NO.
Not even then.
If McCain can't show some - True Grit - and in the least point out
very troubling aspects of an Opponent, then he ain't got the good
good's to Bee Pres.
I don't want some milquetoast,Dr.Doolittle in that Oval office.
I want someone like a Teddy Roosevelt.
Someone willin to " Give em Hell Harry " even if boat Hillary
and the Bama ain't too done Hairy, like*Dick Nixon.
