When Idiots Can’t Win An Argument…They Throw Pies (http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/entry/when_idiots_cant_win_an_argumentthey_throw_pies/)
From the NYSun (http://www2.nysun.com/article/75241):
A columnist for the New York Times, Thomas Friedman, was hit in the face with a pie this week while speaking at Brown University. The Brown Daily Herald reports that the assailant was a Brown pupil who helpfully had an accomplice issue flyers denouncing Mr. Friedman for his “sickeningly cheery applaud for free market capitalism’s conquest of the planet.”
The video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sv6nvMUq10U
Evidently, Brown students have too much food on their hands… they forgot to thank free market capitalism for that one.
What’s most bothersome is that a Google search will show a great deal of people supporting this idiotic behavior. Alright, so you disagree with the guy’s views. Debate him maybe? Neh, prove him wrong by throwing a pie in his face.
I was especially ammused by the comments on Wonkette’s coverage (http://wonkette.com/383180/thomas-friedman-assaulted-by-rhode-island-pies) of the event, I feel like they put this sort of idiotic behavior into context:
Dave J. writes:
Dude is like catnip for baby boomers. He prints it, my parents will buy it. I don’t think they even really care what the book is about.
So you’re going to throw a pie in his face because he reminds you of dad? Seems like this generation of the affluent Americans is best defined by its Daddy/Mommy complex.
Mr. J, you are an assclown. Please grow up.

A Nutter double standard revealed.Because as any fOOl can glean,
It's perfectly acceptable for College Kids to yell,shout-down
and throw stuff at Republicans during a presentation on college
campus as long as their David Horowitz or Ann Coulter.
Of course Ben Stein's - Expelled- will
seriously and laughingly portray these New Dimocrats as the
A$$Klown, duplicitous buffoon, they truly were Born { Bred } ta Bee.

All speech should be free if the speaker agrees with the leftist philosophy. Otherwise it should be forbidden as hateful speech and the speaker should be physiclly assaulted. (The liberal mantra)

I dont see why this thread is taking a liberal VS conservative style of turn.
I posted it to show what snot nose punkish behavior is becoming a trend in todays college aged students. I do realize the vast majority of students taking part in this total disreguarding behavior do lean left, and are acting like asshats against a right leaning cause... but I did not post this to start a pissing contest.... but hey if thats the direction it is going to take, what I can i say..... this is just my own personal disclaimer

It is taking a liberal vs conservative turn because it was a liberal who threw the pie and it is liberals who are applauding him. When is the last time you heard of a conservative doing something like that?

I see plenty of conservatives try to keep people from saying things they don't like (Foolie has tried it here a few times). But yeah, I can't think of any time a conservative has tried something that immature. It's probably happened, mind you, but it doesn't seem to happen with nearly the same frequency.

What is wrong with calling a Spade a Spade.
It's eminently NO Problem for Liberals to toss around Racist Charges.
Are Conservatives supposed to merely be wallflowers.?

I watched the movie and read the article. There was no pointing out anyones political prefference.. But yes I do agree. I cannot recall a young conservative doing anything like that. You do have a very good point.

This thread, from the OP, had potential. But it immediately veered into a wall with Foolsworth's post, then was set alight with Frogger's post. Result: Another boring, partisan bitching thread led by two of the biggest partisan bitches on the forum: Foolsworth and Frogger. Nothing to see here, move along.

All you're doing is reinforcing my point. You're a partisan bitch. You completely and totally buy into the bullshit liberal/conservative dichotomy. The first step is admission.

I don't listen to restaurant or movie critics because they actually have too much experience to think like the common man.
For those of us who don't have eleven thousand posts under our belts, philistines that we are, the partisanship in a thread sometimes has great appeal.
Perhaps you should start a new area for 10,000+ posters, because among the great unwashed you're becoming a bore.

What are you blathering about, Brooks? Looks like the "elitist" Obama-bashing is trickling down now. Hate to say it, Brooksie, but there isn't any functional difference between 11,000 posts and 6,500 posts. What I'm talking about has nothing to do with post counts and everything to do with the state of American politics.

My god but you've become a tiresome, boorish little brat, Borghunter. You have always been an opinionated little pissant but lately you have morphed into an annoying pekinese or pug, constantly nipping at heels. You are trying to be Evakian without Evakian's way with words.

I believe there is a student group, openly based around the world that take it upon themselves to sling pies in peoples faces, the old 'famous for five minutes' routine, I dont think its very nice, or very leftish either.
I remember, last year I think it was, John Prescott, Tony Blairs second in command getten one, he turned round and decked the student, and why not.

And we turn back to the peanut gallery! At least you managed to make a comment without using the word "liberal" or "leftist", I'll grant you that much. Keep it up, Frogger, you may yet be tolerable.

What you have done on several posts is step in like daddy and declare that the statements people are making do not rise to the level of what you feel political discourse should be on AllForums.
Unless there is a rule against these types of posts, and you have some responsibility in your capacity as a moderator, then why don't you just avoid these base threads when they turn stupid?

There's certainly no rule against expressing your opinion regarding a thread. If a regular poster can do it, why not a moderator? It's the things that a regular poster cannot do that a moderator should use with responsibility.
I think this thread blows like Keanu Reeves in an art-house flick. But whatever.

Because I didn't sign away my right to express an opinion when I became a moderator. Not everything I say carries the weight of "OFFICIAL MODERATOR PROCLAMATION: IGNORE AT PERIL OF DEATH". 99% of the time I'm just this guy, you know?

Didn't say you did.
But to have your major contribution to some threads consist of criticizing what some posters consider interesting and relevant is somewhat arrogant.
And I don't feel you actually are arrogant, which is why I can't figure you out on this.
