Seems completely random. I tried three times with the same name, and got three different results. The first one, though, was "Cinque".

Why in the world would I want to know my African name? I no more want to know my African name than my Lithuanian name. My latin name is good enough, Rana pipiens.

I got the name "Kwennoir." I'll remember it and may look up the meaning if I get around to it, dammit.

I like my Matrix name better, which is "Wilco."

I got pretty much the same answer. It told my I wouldn't be able to remember a name, or spell it, so just use "Y" instead. As "X" was over used, already.

Did native Americans use surnames?

I can not speak for all of them, but my understanding is that the Plains Tribes did not. At least not until they were confined to reservations and more or less forced to accept anglicized names.

Even today giving a child an Indian name is an important part of Cheyenne culture. Traditionally, a child is named for a relative. Sometimes other names are given to individuals later in life, such as when someone returns home from military service.

It make tracing family history very difficult. I know little of my father's family, because of it, and the fact I left the reservation at a young age, seldom to visit.
