The thread about Fairs made me wonder what rides you like or dislike, or what rides are scariest.
I dislike the Ferris Wheel, and have had nightmares about them most of my life. In the dreams, they're spinning wildly out of control and are about 350 feet high. I had a terrifying nightmare so horrible the other night, when I woke up my hands were clutching the blanket like I was still clutching the handlebar like I was in my dream.
I will never again ride a Ferris Wheel.

The scariest rides are those that are improperly maintained. I don't mind the various g-forces and whatnot, but I am a bit leery of fair rides, especially in comparison to your permanent roller coasters and whatnot at theme parks. I know they're inspected and everything, so they're probably not very dangerous, but I still have my doubts. Even if I do ride them.

Gotta agree with Borghunter, carnie rides always seem a bit leery to me.
I know other people who are scared of ferris wheels, I never got that. I'm not belittling it but it's just that they've never seemed that scary to me. I even got stuck up on one several years ago, just sat there and enjoyed the view longer than intended.

That's true, pendragon--there's lots more scarier rides, but if you're scared of heights, like me, they're terrifying.
And, like borg said, many of them are on their last legs. As a kid, i rode one that had cables fraying and were actually starting to unravel, At any minute, we expected to fly off into space and land on top of the Tilt a Whirl.
That could explain why they terrify me to this day.:@@:

Agree... but it's not just the maintenance, it's the operators, too!
One (operator) guy talked me and my g/f into getting on the ride he was running (it was the swings on chains that fly straight out the faster the ride turns). We were the only people on it and he cranked that thing up so fast, we couldn't tell which was was up or down. Not only that, but he kept it going so long, we were both sick as dogs. I'll never forget the horror of that ride... nor will I ever be talked into getting on another one for a 'special' treat.

Well, smarty, horrifying as that must have been, I bet the ride guy was a real hottie so that made up for it.
Sis and I rode a ride once and got off before the ride was over. It was kinda a kiddie ride so we could do that. Later on in the day, when we rode the ride again, the guy threatened us with bad things if we ever did that again, saying, "And you don't want to make me mad! I'm very ugly when I get mad."
Sis, ever the charmer, said, "You're very ugly anyway."
The cutie made sure the ride lasted almost half the day before we got off---before the ride ended.

She's been married almost as long as me. Things are interesting at her house.

Aw, she's not THAT bad...who cares if she once threw a beer bottle at a cop or broke someone's window with a brick?
We just call her "high-spirited."

Merry-Go-Rounds are scarey as hell. all that up and down while going around and around in a circle and what if one of the horses was to turn around and bite you?

That's not scary.....that's puke inducing. I feel like I want to hurl just watching one of them go around and around and around......

Oh man, I so prefer the rickety looking rides at the fair to the permanent ones at theme parks. They seem so much riskier even though I don't think they really are. So it adds to the scary-fun.

I ran across this and thought it might be of interest. If you were wondering what the perfect birthday gift could be....
