Geez guys, between Guster, TMBG, and XTC: I've seen Guster in concert (opening for DMB), have one TMBG CD and two XTC CDs. And I'm not exactly Mr. Indie Rock either. Surely there must be rarer bands out there.

I didn't hear of XTC until about 4 years ago. I was surprised at how timeless most of their music is. Granted the early years can be a bit hard to digest.
Here is their main site, http://www.xtcidearecords.co.uk/ not sure where to find some songs, maybe a few samples are available at Amazon. I would recommend the album Skylarking.

I bet everyone has heard one or two XTC songs, they just don't know it.
Okay, I bet you have never heard about Fortay. It is a band of a friend of mine. If you have time, feel free to visit their website (http://www.creatingmayhem.com/fortay/info.htm) and listen to their songs ("Them" and "Falling Dew"). :)

I've heard of Badly Drawn Boy and the Butthole Surfers. Not DEFKON. If you want a good online radio station, check out
woxy.com (http://www.woxy.com/)
Great station. Unfortunately they're going internet-only soon, so I won't be able to listen in the car.

Has anyone ever heard of Boy Hits Car? They are one of my favorites. Most of the music I listen to is unheard of, but they are probably my favorite.

I live 45 minutes from Omaha, I have heard of saddle creek records (I know some people from my old college who work there), and I have heard of Cursive and The Faint. The best song by The Faint is "Agenda Suicide." Awesome song!

I like some Saddle Creek. the faint rock, and Conor Oberst is a genius, but I'm not a big emo person. I get kinda annoyed with whiney vocals. but the bands I've heard are all really talented, just not my type of music.

Bright Eyes is Folk darling. :) As are Rilo Kiley. Cursive is more Math-Rockish.. Desa- and Jets To Brizil are the punk bands of the label and as far as i know the closest thing to emo on the label is Now Its Overhead.
but then again, its all sub-culture semantics so whatever you want to call it is all good. as long as its enjoyed :D

it's emo. there are different types of emo, obviosuly, as with any other genre, but those vocals can't be excused as anything else. Saddle Creek was built on emo.if you've everl istened to older Conor stuff, from when he was a teenager, he was prctiaclly unbearable becasue of all the whineness, etc. etc. but it really matters more that people enjoy the music than what genre it is exactly.

Fleshies. They're on Alternative Tentacles, Jello Biafra's record label, I can't even find MP3s of them on Soulseek.
Then, The Ghost, they're on Southern Records, recording company that has Crass Records.
I also like Murder City Devils, I don't know what label their on.
I still think the Pixies are underrated :D.

DAMMIT!! It's just before school gets out... fuck. I saw rumours of them getting back together a while ago, finally they confirmed it. Why must I always be buisy with something when there is a concert going on? I've already missed three concerts and am extremely ticked about it.
You have AP courses, and you're what, a freshman? Why couldn't I have taken AP last year! I would have aced AP computers probably... I'm still baffled at AP so early, we aren't allowed to take AP until junior year, stupid Florida.

I'm taking AP world history, and I love it. I'm the only class that's ever going to take AP freshamn year in my school bec asue we got a new superintendet who would get rid of AP in general if it were up to him, but parents and teachers won't let him do it. AP is a big deal in my school, becasue we have about a 40 percent graduation rate, but smart kids get to take reallt great courses. any semblence of a good reputation for my school comes from the honors and AP classes. New York rocks. unless its -20 degrees out and with tons of snow. then it sucks, and I wish I lived in Florida.
I'm also really ticked about not being able to go to Coachella. it has the perfect bill. ans I really really wnat to see radiohead. but school and parents will trump music until I turn 18.

Arg, I could have passed AP World History with my hands tied behind my back and with my eyes closed! I knew more about world history and governmental and economic systems than the teacher, and the text book was wrong half of the damn time.

Hopefully the Pixies will tour around here sometime. I will be content as long as I see the Virus, since it is their last tour, supposedly. If I miss that, there will be stab wounds in somebody. After that, most likely I wont see a "concert", unless my dad's in it. But, Rush is coming...

I might find a way to go see the Pixies in Ew York or Boston, which are both a fe hours away from where I live. I also have a fmaily freind who got me into music who said he would be willing to take me to see Iggy Pop, so I'm assuming if everyhting worked out he'd take me to se the Pixies too. he was excited when I told him they got back together. I really desperatley wnat to see the White Stripes and Radiohead, and I'm dying for the Libertines to come to the us so I can see them. If it were up to me I'd also go to visit my freind whos' moving to Austin for SxSW
Ap World Historu is a lot easier thna I thought it would be. everyone was raving about caollege level, etc. et.c, but I've got a 96 in the class without working all that hard. and I just got a 100 on a test I took yesterday. it's just a lot of essay writing and analyzing of things. thinkingg instead of memorizing, which I'm better at in the first place, so AP is perfect for me.

Brighton UK has got to be one of the best places for grate bands that no one really knows,,, for example their is a band called "HYPOCRITE" they are really good and a new band called "Shadow Of Light" or "SOL" and they are like TOOL but no one really knows of them...they are going to be sooooo big... they are going on tour in like 8 months and then they are going to give loads of their music away online for free ...thats cool...coz they are not about money.....keep your eyes out for Shadow Of Light they are going to be sooo big ..and the lead singer is Jimmy Pryce and he is sooooo cute

but you say that but their are so many new bands thats its hard to keep track...and to be hounest some bands only want a selected type of following...eg Tool want followeres that get their music ...not 12 year old kids who want to be cool and tell every one they listen to them and buy their stuff....their are some very good bands out their that only perform once a week at a seedy little rock club and work in mac dounalds the rest of the week......every band started somewhere

I have to go with Mortiis and Mira. Mortiis is something of a cross between new age and metal and Mira would probably get a lot of radioplay if they ever get exposure. Their lead singer has an amazing voice.

your beloved pitchfork, amongst others, said it was mediocre. its not as if it could be expected of them to follow up such a great single with an album full of tracks that are just as good.
