I liked him in Planet of the Apes, but the Omega Man was horrible.
Otherwise it always seemed like he was the white guy who studios often got to play ethnic roles (ten commandments, el sid, sparticus, etc.).

Amen, Shortie. I always looked up to him, along with John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, Richard Widmark....the list goes on and on.

Exactly! I hope the NRA gives him a special tribute for all he did for the group.

Charleton Heston is one of the last of the manly man actors who used to populate the big screen, men like John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, Steve McQueen, Burt Lancaster. Today's male actors are for the most part women with facial hair, quick to show emotion and far, far too sensitive.
There are a few like Bruce Willis who are still in the mold of the above but more and more male actors are like Matthew Broderick, Matt Dammon, and Brad Pitt, too cute and too sensitive by far.

I think Matt Damon is pretty manly. I also like Nic Cage, Christian Slater, Christopher Meloni, Alan Rickman, etc. and I think they're all pretty manly.

has nothing to do with being indian horsefly.
they fought for freedom.
macarthur? ike? and such. i'd rather admire a ground soldier for putting up with the real crap fighting instills. not generals and desk jockeys.
