This is either inspired casting, or one of the worst decisions in Hollywood history, next to the remake of Psycho or the potential Madonna remake of Casablanca.
Depp as Dillinger could work...the book it's based upon is well-written too. ......this is something I'm looking forward to watching.

I LOVE it. Can't wait to see this one, which combines two of my fav movie subjects... crime stories and Johnny Depp! Thanks for the heads-up, Ren. Hope filming goes fast!

Johnny Depp is a good actor. He immerses himself in his character and he can play lots of different kinds of people. My favorite movie with him in it is Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas.

Yea, the media is dying for Depp to drop down to a head-liner, A-list celeb who will grace the covers of BS magazines and be a new piece of meat for the paparazzi... but it's nice to see that he really hasn't done that. He just keeps on acting, and performs DIFFERENT roles.
Guys like Denzel Washington, Nicholas Cage, John Travolta.. they aren't really much of actors anymore. They are hired to be who they are, not to "act" as someone else.
Tom Hanks, Johnny Depp, Jack Nicholson, Tommy Lee Jones.... those are some actors who I think still somewhat "act".

you can like him all you want, but he plays the same role/persona in pretty much every movie

I loved Travolta in Hairspray. Really have my doubts that character reflected his own persona!
Know what you mean about the lack of believable actors today, though. Far as I'm concerned, same goes for most singers as well. Amy Winehouse is one of the most original and talented singers I've heard in a long time... but she'll probably self-destruct in the near future. Then we'll be back to Britney Spears wannabees.

I don't think so. How could you say that the character in National Treasure was the same as the one from Gone in 60 Seconds? Ghost Rider and Con Air?

Nick Cage makes enjoyable movies, at times, but I do agree that he hasn't shown really great range in a LOOONG time. I'd argue that the only really great performances he's done were "Raising Arizona" and "Leaving Las Vegas."

But, back on track, Johnny Depp as Dillinger is very intriguing! He's one of my favorite actors and hope he will make up for the Pirates of the Caribbean II/III soon...

I dunno, darlin. Not sure I'll like him as well without the eye-liner.
Oh wait, he'll be toting a gun and wearin a gangster fedora.
Nevermind... I'm sure he'll be just fine in that role!

I can't stand N. Cage.

I think Nicolas Cage is totally hot... Definitely in the top 10 hot guys of Hollywood for me. Johnny Depp, while I definitely respect him as an actor, is just not very attractive to me.

Well, I can't speak for Nick Cage's hotness (or Johnny Depp's, for that matter). But I started having problems with him after I heard his Godawful Southern accent in Con Air.
