So, you go into a contemporary major bookstore (such as Barnes & Noble), and usually an entire shelf (separate from Religion) is devoted to books on so called "New Age" stuff. Now, what's this stuff and why is it becoming popular? What do you think of it.

I think its a sort of belief that you can change reality by thinking positive thoughts and bringing your life into harmony, or something like that. I think it's a bunch of BS.

i think it would fit better into the philosophy section than the religion section. hutz, don't knock it till you've tried it. the "new age" label comes from most of the ideas being eastern in origon and not widely practiced in the christian world until post world war 2 times, when the east was opened to the western world. the ideas are not so much religious doctrines as common philosophies developed by people of a different religion. their ideas seem weird because all the philosophy that comes from western culture is so deeply ingrained that suggestions to the contrary are quite irregular. i am a believer in daoism, which i choose to see not as a religion but a philosophy.

"New Age" is just a spin off of other religions it should be called "Old Age Twisted For Convenience"
