I agree, I would still do some kind of work. Otherwise you would just wither away.

I've read of many a lottery winner, and some for quite a bit more than Hamburger Man, who were broke and bankrupt within a few years.
They literally frittered the money away on useless, worthless junk.
I suppose they had fun, but filing bankruptcy???
They were fun -loving idiots.

It amazes me how people can do that. I would invest 75% of whatever I won and just live off of interest. I mean I would still indulge some, but people need some self control.

That sounds sensible. Buy land!
Gold prices fluctuate, the stock market rises and falls on a whim, and I don't trust the oil industry.
But there's only so much land.
Me too Phyrex and CD's.
I'd invest in the housing market and flip houses. It'd keep me busy, out of trouble and turn a profit.

He'd probably spend most of that 2.7 million doing that.

Prices for franchises can be astronomical. About 20-25 years ago I remember reading that to open a Ponderosa Steakhouse (are they still around??) one needed $750K CASH and at least another $750K available in credit, plus the appropriate building.
That lucky guy will work until somebody upsets him & he'll just walk away.

Depending on what franchise and where it is, you can get a franchise for $300-500k.
I attended a sales presentation for Cold Stone Creamery recently and you can start one of their franchises for $350k

Coincidentally, I watched a 2-hour show (http://www.lotterypost.com/news/141814) last night on lottery winners. In two hours of telling the stories of lottery winners, only three people were smart enough (and disciplined enough) to manage the money and live at least somewhat happily ever after. Others? Well, let's just say murder, drugs, theft, and suicide put the large majority of winners in a worse spot than they were before they "won."
Still, I wouldn't mind trying my hand at managing a few mill. :D
