View Full Version : American Men & Trucks

It is my observation that American men, especially those living farther from the coast and not inside cities (where trucks are not convenient even if they want to drive them), *really* love to drive trucks. This is an interesting trait that I never quite was able to fully understand. Also watch truck commercials and one will notice that driving a truck is always associated with toughness and manliness. How? What is it about trucks and American men?

Trucks are great. Regardless of what else I might drive & own, there will always be a truck available. They're no less manuverable than any other vehicle, no less comfortable, and certainly more useful. While they're associated with men, given the fact that trucks outsell every other vehicle here in the US (and have for many years) should tell you that both sexes are buying them.

Trucksjust give you that sense of seniority among other vehicles and can be used whether you're in the city or not.
This is how I see it...
Smaller trucks, like your Chevy S10's, Dodge Dakotas, and smaller Ford Rangers are usally used in cities cause of better gas mileage. Bigger trucks, like your Dodge Rams, any Ford F-series, and silverados are usually used in the country cause there's more stuff to haul around.
So really, trucks are made for anyone in any place at anytime. Personally, I love trucks...though what I currently drive is not a truck, I'll take the family one out for a spin once in a while. And to be honest, I love it!

You know, Lincoln is making a truck...the name of it escapes me.

It's called a Blackwood. Think of it as a Navigator with an open bed. The Lincoln version of the Chevrolet Avalanche.

Yes, and it was a massive failure and disappeared after one year. Which goes to show that people aren't quite as stupid as I thought they were.
Of course one other reason trucks are so popular is because it's a cheap way to get a big honkin' V8 in a rear-wheel drive package. All that's left to do is add the dual straight pipes and the "Calvin pissing on a Ford" (or Dodge, or Chevy) sticker.

It would be kind of hard to show a "tough guy" cutting wood and then loading it into a compact car :)

Trucks are just the best for work. Hard to take a car, a van.

Trucks are fine, but if ya wanna be really macho, my man, try jumpin' on an unmanned grader at a construction site and puttin' the petal ta the metal...
I once knew a security guard who did just that... and after a short joy ride down a country road radioed in panic fer help! He didn't know how ta shut the engine off once the joy ride wuz over...
One can only hope that road scholar learned his lesson...
Can ya believe he didn't get fired? (But the supervisor who chewed him out wuz canned himself a half-year later...)
What's it all mean?
