View Full Version : Moderators, Stop The Spam!!!!

Moderators,
I'm sick and tired of good topics being pushed to other pages due to one poster that I will not name (okay, Mr. Shaman) that decides to spam the forum with tons of ridiculus subjects. Can we do something about this please? This reminds me too much of Tentmaker's hay day!!!
Karankawa

Under our rules:
No posting irrelevant information
Mr. Shaman has started numerous threads, each with a different title, but all basically stating his opinion that he dislikes President Bush. Can this not be under one topic, thereby reducing his spam? This would also keep more interesting subjects closer to the top of our forum, topics that most of our posters are much more interested in. And yes, our posters are not interested in Mr. Shaman's propaganda. This can easily be seen by how many replies his topics get, and then compare that number to ANY of the other topics, started by ANY of the other posters.
Let's stop this trend now, please!

Without naming anyone, there have been times that I wanted to banish some from AllForums. While it does appear that Mr. Shaman bends the rules, IMHO he has not yet completely crossed the line. Now, should another moderator or administrator decide differently, then that's fine by me. The way to keep your topics in the forefront is to post regularly. Place the individual who offends you on "ignore", at least then you'll be spared the tedium of reading the posts. Eventually the offending party gets the message, when their posts are not responded to, and they go elsewhere, as Tent did.

Indeed. Tent eventually got bored and wandered off after people stopped replying to him. That's what trolls do, they try to get responses. Ignore it and it will go away.

I don't think he's crossed the line either. Besides, anything we do to him will just cause him to declare victory and leave with the smug knowledge that he thinks he's our intellectual superior.

It's still spelled r-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s, pbman.
It's a good thing you never tried c-e-n-s-o-r-s-h-i-p! That would have really been amusing!!
That's your last, desperate option, huh? I'm kickin'-your-butt (dispelling your right-wing rhetoric) in all the other forums, where we participate, but you pick this one to ban me?? I guess that's pretty-much because this is the only forum where people don't laugh at your whacked-out/immature excuses for logic!

No, we laugh at yours. At your lack of anything resembling an opinion (except Bush = bad, which I may agree with but I can at least defend my opinions on.), at you annoying "LOL!!!!!!!!!!!", at the fact that you insult Karan for his supposed "right wing rhetoric" when in fact most don't consider Karan some right-wing nut. You are, in fact, what I despise: one who is the reason Trav hates liberals: you insult us for not backing up our arguments with links, when your links are some biased sources. I wouldn't be surprised if you backed up your arguments with links to the Democratic Underground. You give liberals a bad name. Get a clue.

Lmao, kickin my butt!? I guess you have proclaimed yourself the victor simply because you found a spelling error? Whatever man. I have yet to see you post one original idea in any of your posts. So far, all they consist of is links to sites for idiots. I've quit looking because it is all mindless drivel. Let me know when you have something to say that consists of more than 2 sentences, and I'll read it and let you know what I think. In the meantime, keep watching my posts, and see if you can catch me making another spelling error. I'll try to leave one for you so you can tell everyone how smart you are. ;)

Shaman - although your posts are a bit questionable- ie nothing to say & just a link machine, you are entitled to post your links so long as it doesn't disprupt the board. So far I don't think you've disprupted the board.
I would ask you to be a bit sensible about it - engage in debate - yes it'll still get heated but at least it will be more interesting

There are plenty of heated conversations here. We don't share the same views on some subjects (perhaps on others we do) - but that's fine. The very big difference between your posts & Shamans is - you actually have an opinion that you can articulate and explain, Shaman on the other hand just has stupid quips plus links. It takes nothing to post a link. If I took away his ability to post links for a while then he would basically wither away because so far he has said nothing.

Bringing this thread back. I'm frustrated with being forced to read through a bunch of nonsense in order to read a good post. Isn't there something we can do to limit certain posters?
If you look in the rules, there is a rule that states there is to be no irrelevant information. Don't you guys think some of the posters on here post irrelevant information?
I only bring this up because it is a lot of work to have to read through the stupid posts just to hear a few good ones. I wish we could do something to limit some of the nutzy posts. You know the ones I'm talking about, I think.
Actually, Shaman has proven a point. While he may overdue it, slightly, with the number of is posts...it seems to me that most of the responses to his comments are, for the most part, personal attacks on him, rather than a dissenting view or a debating point.
It seems to me that the side on the right, on this forum, have very little to respond to as most of the comments by Shaman, and others from that side, usually speak to the facts as they have been reported, but the opposing side usually responds with a personal attack, or some reference to the previous administration, which has no bearing on present day.
It is commonly knwn that in an attempted debate,, when one person has no ammunition to back up their side, and the other side has gained points, they usually being the frontal, personal attack.....thinking that they can ward off their opponent with those type of attacks....
But, int he end, when it's all over, theyusually lose and then find that they have no where to hide except under the nearest rock.

What may be irrelevant to you may, in fact, be relevant to someone else, and visa versa.
If there is something you find irrelevant, then don't read it or, if you do, don't respond.
I don't think that is too difficult to do...or, as someone else suggested, invoke your "ignore" button.
Unfortunatley, contrary to what it seems like you would prefer, there ARE two sides to every story, sometimes three, your side, my side and the truth right in between the two.
BTW, how do I get my age listed under my screen name on the left side?

Moderators,
I'm guessing that by your actions, it would be perfectly legal for me to start 12, 14, 20 seperate threads that are anti-Democrat. I'm guessing this because there are easily that many threads that are anti-Bush right now. Almost all of them are complete nonsense from the same 2 posters.
Is this really what we want this forum to become? A big spam fest where we start several seperate threads that each basically say the same thing?
Wake up moderators. You are about to ruin our forum. If nothing is done, my next step will be to fight fire with fire and dig up 10 articles every day and post them too.

Apparently, the moderators that run this board agree with you. I guess the best way to make a point on this board is to post a bunch of trash. The more often you do it, the more you can claim that you are "winning the game."

I would suggest you take a tour of ALL the political messageboards on the intenet. You will find, in my opinion, that they are the most widely visited and the most widely used of ALL messageboards .
So, if you think it's trash, might I suggest you go and try some messageboards in FAIRYLAND. Those would be much more suited to your liking, IMO of course.

Moderators,
It is evident that our political forum has become a jungle and is out of control. We need a new rule. We need to be able to ban certain posters from this forum. I am not even saying that I should be able to choose who would be banned. I trust in the moderators' common sense on this, because it seems pretty obvious. Most of our regular posters have left this arena because it has fallen badly. I, myself, find that there is too much trash here to even bother reading posts anymore. I believe you will find that this forum's stock is falling quickly, and is becoming more like a shouting frenzy. I hate to see this happening to this forum, where we had, for several months, a place where we could argue and talk politics reasonably. Is this not something that we all want?

Presently we do have a few boneheads who are showering the boards with repetitive B S. I strongly suggest to anyone offended by these boneheads to merely add their screen names to their own ignore list, and to stop responding to the boneheads in any way. The ignore list will remove their posts from your sight. Eventually the loss of audience will have its' desired effect and they will leave. This has worked with other boneheads.
It is not the moderator's job to censor speech.

But I have to agree with ES, I don't think banning is the right answer. It smacks of censorship. Yeah, it would be nice if Shaman and NEM didn't start 3 new "George Bush is a poopy head" threads every day, but of course we don't have to respond (hint, hint).

I do have them on my ignore list, but still, I have to look at their stupid titles. And if I was new to this board, I would have turned my nose up at the ignorance and left. I believe both liberals and conservatives alike would turn their nose up at the ignorance that is spewing on this forum right now. I would rethink my strategy if I were in charge, but that's just me.
You guys do have a good point about censorship. I wouldn't want to prohibit them from saying what's on their minds. Could we start a forum for the ignorants posts perhaps? Since their threads are basically the same material over and over, perhaps we could have a thread dedicated to the presidential race, and we could move them over there.
