Whilst Staying in San Fransico, touring with The Metropolitan
Opera Company, giving a series of performances at the Tivoli
Opera House,The Great Enrico Caruso was awakened in the
early morn by a strong jolt. The Great Earthquake of 1906 had
struck and led to a series of fires, that destroyed much of the city.
Clutching an autographed photo of President Theodore Roosevelt,
Caruso made an effort to get out of the city, first by boat, and then
by train, and vowed never to return to San Fransico;he kept his word.

Later that same year, on November 16,1906, Caruso was charged with an indecent act commited in the monkey house of New York's Central Park zoo. He pinched the bottom of a women described as "pretty and plump" causing outrage amongst New York high society. Caruso claimed a monkey pinched the lady's bottom. Caruso was eventually found guilty and fined 10 dollars.

" The legitimate object of Government is to do for a community
of people whatever they need to have done, but cannot do at all,
or cannot so well do,for themselves in their seperate and individual
capacities. But in all that people can individually do as well for
themselves,ought not to interfere. "
