Priviledge of the West. "
-- Mother Teresa.

This quote which was a loose translation from a caller-in to
The Dennis Prager show,Today. From an earlier show that
features a lone hour, per week dedicated to the - Happiness Hour -.
Prager feels this is a great problem in Society. That too many people
can't see themself clear to finding some rational or philosophy
to just Be Happy.Not dopey,silly Happy.But real Happiness,that earns
it's mettle,every week,if not day,in the lives of everyone,and most
certainly anyone.
Prager just got back from a visit to India and other places of that region.
He was amazed at how the people of India, many of whom know
and witness true Poverty every day, especially those little tattered
half-clothed kids,roaming the streets,scroungin for a bite to eat.
Nowhere near as bad as 20+years ago in Calcutta, where
Saintly Mother Teresa could be seen, literally carrying a half dead
corpse from the street to either her clinic or suitable shelter.
Prage admitted he was a young twenty something the last time he visited
Calcutta, and actually weep, from scenes like were a daily ordeal
for Mother Teresa.
Prage insisted,Today, that yes,Depression is truly an invention of
the more well-to-do society's.Because he saw smiley faces, abound
everywhere, this last trip.Mainly because of the Philosophy of the
India people. They have adopted a very stern creed, that certain
pain, illness and discomfort are actually a part of life. That life is
mostly dealing with this discomfort, whether hungry,in need of
medical or just shelter & clothes. But smile ON,they do.
And One more thing.
That Philosophers throughout History are almost ALL,to a Man,
never less than Wealthy, because how does one have the energy,
or time to ponder Life's great thoughts,if they're in the midst,
of Survival.So too with Depression.
Depression is a Luxury for other Society's,people's and most
certainly ... Philosophers.
I couldn't agree More.

There is no such thing as a "half dead corpse".

It's all or nothing, corpse-wise.

Haven't you even been to a hospital and seen those on life support.
My Father,died a very miserable,half-existence.
There are Youth in India, that scraggly around, technically
a meal or two away from Death.

well, when you don't have the technology, you aren't able to diagnose the problem. People in poverty who suffer from severe depression must have the toughest lives in the world... which is probably why we don't hear from them, because they die off too quick.

The point bein made on Prager talk Radio, during his
Happiness Hour was that Dennis saw very many Happy faces in India,
on his recent trip.He was taken aback, since many of those
happy faces were from mere kids, just scrapin thru life, tryin like the
dickens to find enough food for sustenance.
We don't have that problem here. And those in India don't have the
Luxury to sit around and get Depressed.Their too busy tryin to
merely stay alive.
Depression is for those with time on their hands. And food, shelter
and clothes within sight.

good post foolsworth.

this reminds me of something i saw years ago. a young boy somewhere in africa had to have a trepanning(hold drilled into the skull to release pressure) because of an injury. he had NO pain killers at all, before, during or after. he did not pass out, and complained very little.
while a person from western society would have bitched like a bitch the whole time and eventually passed out.

the environment you grow up in definitely has an effect on how you deal with things... this is basic psychology.

- Come ON People -
Title comes from his granddaughter, waitin in line with her
Grandpa,to buy stamps. The line was crowded and moving very slowly.
When askin Grandpa, why is everyone so slow, the Cos just
said because, they're slow. So she blurts - COME ON PEOPLE! -.
I'd do as mush herein.
But i'd just as soon let sleeping sheep... Lie.
