BULLSHIT drives me nuts. The very idea that this exhibit is somehow offensive and will be kept from students is absolutely reprehensible.

Bodies Revealed is revealed to the public Friday at Union Station, but don't look for groups of Catholic school children on field trips.

Despite its billing as an educational opportunity, Metro Catholic bishops said not so fast.

Bodies Revealed is an exhibit using donated human bodies that are plastinated then cut open to show how things are put together and how they work. The display uses 15 bodies and more than 200 body parts and organs.

Union station brought the popular exhibit to Kansas City because they said it's a fascinating way to learn about the human body.

"The bodies of the dead deserve respect and charity, preserving the god-given dignity of the human person," local archbishops said in a statement.

"Our students at St. Mary will not see Bodies Revealed," Dr. Judy Warren said. "The church teaches respect for the human body in all stages, a baby, a child or adult and even someone who has passed away."

Sarah Biles from Union Station said she respects the church's position but plenty of schools around the Metro have already signed up for the exhibition.

"We expect a large percentage to come from the general public coming on their own, however, school groups make up a significant amount and we have many, many groups already booked," Biles said.

Union Station is also hoping that parents of Catholic students will bring their kids on their own to see the exhibit.

Other than it being slightly eerie and morbid, I see no problem with the display. I will go see it if it comes round these parts.

i think pretty much sums up why...

if and when you do, ask yourself how long ago you could have handled partially dissected and posed corpses.

Froggette and I went to see Bodies a few weeks ago in Fort Lauderdale. It was a great exhibit, fascinating, informative and not at all gory or eerie.

There are a few whole bodies, or rather, bodies exhibiting entire systems, ie. circulatory, skeletal, digestive, but for the most part it is an exhibit of different organs.

A glass case might contain a whole heart next to a heart opened to show the atria and ventricles, or a healthy lung next to a cancerous one.

The most fascinating thing, at least to me, was the circulatory system. They had a skeleton showing all the arteries, veins, arterioles, veinules and most of the capillaries. It looked like a skeleton covered by a mesh web.

I highly recommend the exhibit to anyone who is close enough to go see it.

I would only have a problem if the plasticized parts and bodies were from this...

Not cool, not at all.

Your post is rather jarring because the majority of the bodies in the exhibit did look Asian. A few had black or white features but most were Asian looking.

I bet if they put some clothes on those exhibits the Catholic church would have no issue.

Sorry, but the Catholic church is living in the middle ages. These people donated their bodies to science - there is no disrespect in it. Medical students operate on dead bodies - it's educational

The catholic church is basically retarded. They'll have you bury a statue in the garden and say a prayer to sell your house & all other manner of superstitious claptrap - but when it comes to educatin' - then no dice.

Curiosity is the friend of education - but it ain't no friend of the Roman Catholic Church.

I don't see anything wrong with a museum having a display of the inner workings of the human body with real human bodies. I am going to assume (and hope) these people donated their bodies to science and what better way to help us that are still living see what's going on inside us than to view it from another human body?

This is just blown way out of proportion.

funny how in america it is ok to show dead bodies, depictions of death, war, and violence, but nudity and sex is a no-no.

it's educational entertainment.

Would it be more acceptable if it was educational and boring?
