Heya Kimi! Good to see you, too!
I had a good friend who went through the whole annulment process when her husband decided to date again....while they were still married. After 15 years of marriage, two kids and all that that entails, he eventually got to get remarried in the church. Somehow, that's just wrong to me.
May i cite - { Shattered Faith } by Sheila Brewster Rauch,once
married to Congressman Joe Kennedy {preceeded Tip O'Neil's seat}
who struggled with the Kennedy clan over Annulment, because in
Roman Catholic theological theory,in her case,it meant a Marriage
never actually existed.
The Annulment which was originally granted by the Boston Archdiocese
in 1997,was overturned by the Vatican in 2005.
In June of 2007,Time Magazine reported that the Roman Rota reversed
the declaration of annulment made by the tribunal of the Boston
Archdiocese.Rauch, who was NOT Catholic, was granted an annulment
on the grounds of mental deficiency, after her book was published.
So,Matters such as Marriage in a Catholic Church,or to a Non-Catholic
can get pretty sticky.
With or without the last name Kennedy.
But it helps to be a Kennedy.
For Catholics,anywho.

I would think so, too...but, I'm not real knowledgable about the catholic religion - just was friends with some catholics in school.
Basically, it's Catholic for a "do-over". They're saying the marriage was never valid (for whatever reason), so the parties in question aren't actually getting a divorce. Even though they got married in the church to begin with.......

With enough money all things are possible. I personally know people who were told exactly how much they had to give to The Church to secure an annulment.

Annulment is not just a Roman Catholic term, it also carries weight in the legal world as well.

In the case of Joe Kennedy,he was having marriage trouble with his
first wife and she was talkin Divorce.Like I said,Divorce is not easy
to come by in the Catholic Church.Nor is Marriage.
Since Catholics consider it a Sacrament,it MUST be performed in
a Catholic Church by a Catholic Priest, and at least one spouse HAS
to be a Confirmed Catholic.
So,the easiest way for Joe to get a Divorce was prove, rather
backhandedly that They weren't married in a Catholic Church, therefore
NO Marriage actually took place.
I believe that is what The Kennedy clan concocted,in lieu of the
lenghty alternative of asking for a Divorce thru the Vatican.

Only thing MORE divisive are atheists who run around insulting religious people to get their kicks.
Bless your little black heart... it's a good thing most of us ignore YOU.
;)
SMW Well I find religion insulting so I'll insult it all I want to. It has nothing to do with getting kicks. And I didn't know you were the spokeperson for most of the people on allforums. You have no way to respond to a topic but to hurl insults at people. But I'm sure most of us here know that anyway!

Oh,I get it.Folk go to Church to seperate themselves by pew.
Go to a Church Bingo to divide themself when playing.
Go to a Church Picnic to bring their own food, and forks.
Don't have Church Wedding's or Funerals.
Sounds like a certain someone done was divisive about even

Who seem purdy intolerant once the tables are turned. What is it I'm being intolerant about? You can go to church everyday for all I care. It won't bother me one bit. I can't help it if you don't think religion is divisive. And there are conservatives that are atheist/agnostic too. It has nothing to do with being liberal or conservative.

Your arrogance and egosim really doesn't fit a religious thread well FT...
LOL.
Like I give a fuck what "fits" for this thread. Everyone here is talking about numerous things that have nothing to do with religion.
I was simply taking up for Frogger, in noting that it is ridiculous to posit that someone is lying about what religion they are or whether or not they married a widow. It is asinine for Foolsworth to accuse him of lying about something there would be no reason whatsoever to lie about.
Smartmouthwoman has no problem castigating Foolie herself, but --like the smarmy little stand-behind-big-brother-and-scream-taunts asswipe that she is-- seems all too eager to jump in whenever someone castigates me for telling Frogger to ignore Foolsworth and his accusations that Frogger lied about what religion he is.

I have yet to read a post in which a religious person has insulted an atheist or even insulted atheism. However, I constantly read posts in which certain atheists insult religous people or religion in general and Christianity in particular.
If someone doesn't wish to be religious, fine. No one should insult them for their belief system.
If someone chooses to be religious that should also be fine and no one should insult them for their belief system.
The only conclusion I can come to is that some of the atheists among us suffer from an inferiority complex that causes them to try to tear down belief systems other than theirs.:woohoo: Those atheists wothpuit this inferiority complex do not feel it necessary to tear down religion and religious beliefs.

You're not even a fan and you can't insult the man. So it is with atheism. Theists complain all they want about atheists, but they never have anything to say about atheism itself, they don't have the easy ability to ridicule it like we can theism. I mean, honestly, all one has to do to make a mockery of Christianity is :worship: a flying ball of spaghetti. I suppose theists have a right to be thin-skinned.

Ever notice how even Rock Legends, who were traditionally
hyperkinetic and ballsy { almost a standard } seldom if ever
wanna tread there. That being the Domain of God & Godliness.
Even rock legends, befuddled and laced to the gills with every known
feelgood drug.
It takes a huge effort to be So Cocksure and also intrinsically

worthy to Spiritualize about.
I wonder if Dante had this haggardly a task with those known
