View Full Version : Howdy! It's been too long.

Howdy all!
I didn't realize how long it's been, I've missed being here. Alot of work, alot of school.
I did sell my chrysler. It was a 1996 Concorde, my wife referred to it as a Grandpa Car.

The new hotness is a 2003 Ford Lightning. Supercharged V-8, Wicked Fast, and Arrest Me Red in color. It looks like this:

Concordes are a very nice drive....until you wrap them around a tree cause you fell asleep driving.

I agree, I drove the Concorde, and before that, a Dodge Intrepid. They are the same car really, both are built on the LH body platform. My usual description is that they drive like a living room, very roomy and comfortable.
My choice for the new ride was because I missed the power of my '91 Mustang GT and I also missed the usefulness of my '94 F150. I now have the ability to carry large objects and the power, speed, & control to run with the quickest vehicles being produced. It's a best of both worlds kind of thing to me.
Yes, I have yet to see a car tougher than your average tree. Hope you weren't hurt.

I'm fine....wasn't me that wrapped the car around a tree.
One of my buddies bought one last summer and he asked me to go with him to pick up his old car to take it to the junkyard. I got to drive the Concorde.
2 months later he fell asleep driving home from college. He was fine, not a scratch on him but the poor car was totaled.
I've seen several of the LH bodies in the salvage yard that took a hell of a hit from the front or rear and still the passenger cabin was intact. The engine stayed where is was supposed to in the front hits. There are many, many cars where the engine joins the driver in the passenger cabin, not groovy at all. It's a safe car in a front or rear hit, from the wrecks I've seen of them. A hit from the side, I don't know.
Glad everyone is ok.
Thanks guys. According to the last visit indicator, I haven't been logged in since October, I had no idea.

Wow, long time no hear. I understand life gets busy glad to hear you are doing well.
You'd be best to ask Vile about Imagineer, he's closest to him and can give you a better idea how he's coming along. I miss him too. Anyway, good to see you posting again and hope all is well with you and yours.
:drinktoth
Imp!! Hello, yes long time no hear. I'm back. I need to start making sure I get some time that isn't just mandatory, do something just because I like it, not because I have to.
Everyone here is fine. It seems we all have our ways to go, my wife works when I do not, I work when she does not, and our daughter goes to Junior High school, so we always seem to be passing each other. I liked it better when we all had the same schedule. Such is life, I suppose.
I trust you and yours are doing well also?
I'll be talking more,
007.
Well, how do I say this? The new Hotness has been wrecked.
After one of my ultra long shifts at work, 13 or 14 hours, it seems I fell asleep four blocks from my home. Seems to add credibility to the statement most accidents occur close to home. The Lightning took a damn good hit against a 1993 Ford Explorer. Damages came to $4600.00. I got her back already, had to go back to get them to fix a some pretty obvious screw-ups on their part. You'd think for $4600 there might some kind of quality control in place.
You can't tell she's been in an accident. I didn't get hurt, just a rude awakening. I did get a ticket for "improper lane usage" that I thought was bullshit. A one-way street that only has one lane, how many ways can it be used? I called the cops. Since this happened at 7 am, I didn't really want to start knocking on doors to see whose car I just hit. I asked why he wrote the ticket and he said, "They like us to do that". My reply was, "Who are they, I'm not part of 'they'. I don't like it". I went to court, the attorney said they (again, they) like to do that so that she can check and make sure my insurance paid for the vehicle I hit. Insurance paid, I provided proof, she made the ticket go away. At any rate, I'm still glad to be back.

Sorry to hear about your wreck 007, and I'm glad you're ok.
As to Imagineer, as far as I know he's ok, but I haven't been in contact for a couple months. I'll check on him and let you know. :)

Yep, just like a car I had. I put deer alarms on the front but they don't work on a 75 y/o oak tree :(

That's just like hitting a tree. I've never done it, but I've seen plenty of the aftermath. I work at a tractor trailer shop and every once in a while we get a 'Deer Strike'. It's expensive and sometimes gory, deer guts smell less than desirable. I'm glad to hear the deer whistles work for you. A friend of mine tagged a dear a few months ago in his wifes SRT-4. It did a hell of number on that low slung car. There wasn't a peice straight in front of the windshield. It even broke the engine computer under the hood, since the hood was perfectly shaped like the top of the engine, several things under there were broken. I don't think he could have done a better molding job with a press. It's all good now though.

My wife, Froggette and I were going out to lunch when I noticed her car, a 2000 Honda Accord, needed an oil change. We drove to the Honda dealership to get the oil changed and Froggette decided she didn't really want an oil change. She wound up driving a 2008 Accord right off the showroom floor. Got all the bells and whistles too, heated seats, bluetooth, navigations system, XM radio. The old car had only forty two thousand miles on it so she got a pretty good trade in. She wanted to buy the car while we were still down in Florida because the sales tax is a lot less.

...wish I had even half of the money to do something like that. Not that my old car is falling apart, but just the thrill of driving a new car (right out of the showroom, no less) is always an exciting adventure.

sbkc,
It all boils down to good credit. Make sure you pay all your bills on time and there is no problem getting a car. Frrogget and I make sure we have lots of credit cards and that we pay them all off each month. For some reason the more credit cards you own the better your credit score is just so long as you never fall behind in payments.
Two years ago I did the same thing my wife did. I went out for lunch and came home with a Mitsubishi Spyder. Like Froggette I always have car payments automatically taken out of my checking account so that I am never late with a payment.
You also have to remember, both of our other cars had been paid off for years. Froggette used her 2000 Honda with just iover 42,000 miles on it as a trade in. I kept my 2001 Mountaineer with about 70,000 miles as a utility vehicle.
We don't put all that many miles on vehicles so their value holds up. I have had the Spyder for 27 months and have just over 14,000 miles on it.

I've got a Ford F-150, manufactured in November 1988 with less than 160,000 original miles.

Good idea...now I just have to get a credit card...ah screw it, Mike's idea sounds more appealing. :)

sbkc,
My wife got her car for o.9% interest and I got mine for 0% interest. In makes sense to pay it off in payments and to allow the money you would have spent buying a car for cash work for you earning much more than the payments.

We drove to the Honda dealership to get the oil changed
I had to get my oil changed a few weeks back and decided to do it myself. I never realized how ridiculously easy it is to change oil. I was like, "I paid some jackass twenty-something bucks to do this? Never again. Got a fuel filter to change here real soon, the mechanic wants $60 and Advance Auto parts wants $15 for both the filter and the special Ford tool the filter requires to remove. Guess who's getting my bucks? It's even easier to change a fuel filter than it is to change oil! Now I just need to find a buddy with a lift so I can change my brake pads and shoes.

Depends on where it's hidden on the car.
Anyway, I think changing brake pads is even easier than changing oil.
