I just want to know what how people rate U2's best songs. In case you are new here, U2 is my favorite band. I realize today's young folk don't relate to them much, and either like them or hate them. But, I am always interested to here which song has moved them the most.

There are two lists I'd be wanting to ask for. I can split U2 into two categories... songs that are meaningful and emotional, and songs that are feel-good and basic. You will see what I mean when you see MY lists. You can do Top 5, Top 3, or Top whatever, I just am curious as to how you rate their songs.

Decka's Top 10 Emotional/Meaningful U2 Songs:
1. With or Without You (1987)
2. One (1991)
3. I Still Havn't Found What I'm Looking For (1987)
4. Bad (1984)
5. Stay (1993)
6. The Sweetest Thing (Best of 1980-1990)
7. Where the Streets Have No Name (1987)
8. Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own (2004)
9. If God Would Send His Angels (1996)
10. The Unforgettable Fire (1984)

Decka's Top 10 Feel Good/Rock U2 Songs:
1. Pride/In the Name of Love (1984)
2. Elevation (2000)
3. Mysterious Ways (1991)
4. Beautiful Day (2000)
5. Vertigo (2004)
6. Desire(1988)
7. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me/Batman Forever (1995)
8. When Love Comes to Town w/BB King (1988)
9. Angel of Harlem (1988)
10. I Will Follow (1980)

Man, that was tough. Well, if you know anything about U2, let me know what you think, if I was wrong, if you agreed, or if you have your own list... I'm definitely curious to know how others rank U2's work.

That's a good list you have. I also love the song "Whose gonna ride your wild horses". I have seen U2 three times in concert. I would say in the 80's they were one of my favorite bands. Alone with the Cure and the Smiths. I saw U2 on their first tour of America in Austin,Texas at a small club. It might have been their first show in America. One of the first at least. They were great. I had only heard one of their songs-I will Follow. I knew that they were going to be big. The second time I saw them was in Kansas City on the Joshua Tree tour. They were excellent. That is also my favorite U2 album!! I like every song on that album. I thought Actung Baby was good too. I did not get to see U2 in concert again til I saw them in Denver. I think that was 2001 or 2002. I was not that crazy about the album that was out for that tour. They did a very touching memorial for all the people that died in the twin towers which was really something. They are a great live band and know how to connect with the audience. Bono is a great frontman. I think anything U2 puts out will be compared to The Joshua Tree and I doubt they will ever top it. But they can try I'm willing to listen.

The Grammies don't have much credibility if Kanye West won a single one.

afiner.. I also like Wild Horses very much... the whole Achtung Baby CD is actually a SOLID cd, and i'm surprised it's not rated higher on the best of all time list.

mikezilla.. yes, this WAS a tough list to make, and it took me awhile to try to actually RATE all these song that I enjoy. I can't say it with 100% confidence that this list is accurate... but It's close (i'm talking about MY OWN tastes here)....

As for grammies... I think it is the most telling factor of how good a band is musically. That one year that one african girl won like 7 of them, and nobody had ever heard of her. I didn't hear much of Kanye's stuff, but I would imagine he deserved the grammy if he recieved it. You can tell the grammies aren't completely false because no-names come up and win them... they don't just look at the publicity whores and try to get big names in there all the time.

Yes and we must not forget when the grammy went to Milli Vinili for best new artist. They sure know a up and coming talent when they see one!

Hey, hindsight is 20/20.. I bet Vanilla Ice was once considered the "best new artist"...

Hey, hindsight is 20/20.. I bet Vanilla Ice was once considered the "best new artist"... Well I don't remember him being nominated for best new artist although he was nominated for best rap solo performance in 1991 but lost to MC Hammer's U Can't Touch This. Anyway at least Vanilla Ice's vocals are his own. Milli Vanil was just lip-synching and someone used someone else's vocals. That is the reason they had to give back their grammy. The Ingido Girls should have recieved that grammy.

The grammies are not perfection.. but overall I'd have to say they convey who the most talented musical artists are... of course we all have our taste in music, but there IS a standard. I happen to KNOW that some of the music I enjoy isn't very good or takes a lot of talent, so to say, but I still enjoy it. Then comes the whole "best new music video" BS.. which really has nothing to do with the music.

Well I would have to disagree with saying the grammies convey who the most talented musical aritsts are. That is obvious just by seeing all the irrevelant people that are nominated and win. It has no bearing on quality or talent in my opinion. 98% of the grammies is crap-give or take a couple percent.

I don't get how you can say that when no-names are winning grammies.

If it were just a celeb-fest, then Justin Timberlake would win "best artist", Akon would win "best new artist", etc...

you don't see that. You see it on "video grammies".. but as far as "best album" and "best recording", i would say they are normally decently accurate. Again, they are far from perfect.

Now while some people automatically dismiss the grammies because Kanye West won some, I never heard his full album, just a few clubs songs. Granted, they were just dancing songs, but it IS possible the entire album was more than just dancing clubs songs.

I went and saw U23D today. It's really great. There are a few times I thought Bono was going to touch me. And the crowd in Argentina went wild for U2. You feel like your in the audience. You got to see it on the big screen. They also showed the preview for Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3-D coming out this summer. Looked pretty cool.

If you wanna see Bono, or The Edge for that matter, heres a tip.

Book yourself a week in sunny Dublin.

When there get a cab at night up to Killiney, go sit in the Sally Noggin Pub.

Those two guys pop in at least once a week for a few, if their at home.

Its ok, the advice is free :)
