How about the Cadillac Cimarron? A tarted up Chevy Cavalier that GM no doubt thought would make for good competition with BMWs and Mercedes.

I love the Dodge Dynasty page and how it's all dressed up to be a luxury sedan. Anymore, you can't find a vehicle of that type without half a bumper or a missing fender or torn cloth or a smoker inside.

I'd go ahead and add the Chrysler TC (a really hyped up LeBaron), the Buick Reatta, the Volkswagen Scirocco, the Jeep Comanche (neat little truck), and a vehicle I used to own, the Nissan Stanza.
And if we can add things that are merely car parts, how about the Oldsmobile diesel engine?

What a piece of crap car!
My buddy owned one, and his wife accidentally ran it out of oil.
(They tended to leak oil slightly more than they dripped gasoline.)
He spent most of his weekends on that car, rebuilding the engine, over and over again over a three year period.
As disposable as a Bic Lighter, only slightly less useful.

Wow, this is one of the most ignorant sentences I've ever read. You have it backwards, Rendova. I don't give flying fuck how my car looks. If you do, you completely miss the point of automobiles. Their primary duty is to get you from point A to point B in relative comfort and without burning too much gas or costing too much in repairs. If my car got all that, I wouldn't give a damn if it looked like the fucking Weinermobile.
People who buy cars based on how they look, unless they have a lot of money to blow, are self-important, vain idiots.
so what?
"So what" if it gets good performance and/or gas mileage? "So what?!" You keep driving your cool-looking, ill-built, inefficient pieces of shit. I'll be laughing all the way to the bank when my perhaps boring, perhaps silly-looking automobile saves me money in gas and repairs. Looks do count for nothing in cars except to show other people what a vain dickhead you are. I'd rather drive a Scion xB or a Honda Element than an impractical, unreliable, inefficient Mustang, Corvette, or Viper.
(Incidentally, if I had the money, I'd be driving one of these (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:05-06_Subaru_Legacy-2.5GT.jpg). I don't, so I'm driving one of these (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Hyundai_Sonata_older.jpg).)

I used to drive a gray Nissan Stanza. Looks only matter to me insofar as they are an indicator of if a car is in good repair.
(Incidentally, the Legacy being red was only happenstance—that's the color the Wikipedia article had for a modern Legacy GT. My preference would be black, which absorbs sunlight better in winter.)

1. Yep, that's me.
2.Ok. Most wouldn't. And I certainly wouldn't. Who cares if the Viper only gets 3 yards per gallon and breaks down continously? Not that it does. It is a beautiful, aesthetically pleasing, car. I know very very few who wouldn't give up a lot to have one of them sitting in their driveway. They're fun just to look at. Practicality is nice, but it is not the most important thing in this world. If it were, no one would go to the Louvre. There would BE no Louvre.

How long do you think it would take before that Viper went from "HOLY SHIT I OWN A VIPER" to "just my car"?
I like what Lionel said when he said he went for a mix of practicality, reliability, and style. That's fine. When all you care about is style, however, you are behaving in a dangerously emotional manner about a very important purchase. This is how people waste their money. And when it comes down to it, once the novelty of driving an X has worn off, all a pretty car is good for is showing off to people. And if you have to do that with your car, then you might want to look into alternative methods of improving your self-esteem that don't cost 30 grand.
If you're positively swimming in money and you want to spend it on fancy cars, that's your business. Hell, even if you're broke and still buy fancy cars, that's your business. However, taking the ridiculous position that buying useful cars instead of pretty cars is some sort of flaw is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Cars are things you use to carry around people and property. They shouldn't be ornaments. (Again, unless you're a rich bastard. Rich bastards get exempted from my rule because they can afford it.)

Of course a reliable car is important. But if it's also ugly, I ain't driving it.
Even as a little girl of 5 or 6 or so, I noticed that all the neighborhood Dads drove the little red sports cars, and the Moms got stuck with the station wagons, grannymobiles, clunkers, and , as you put it, Weinermobiles. Was this fair?
Or did the guys know something the women didn't.....my own Dad drove a 1956 Thunderbird. He loved that car....yes, loved, even more than Mom---not only was it prettier than mom, it also didn't talk back.
On the rare ocassions when the T-bird was in the shop, Dad had one of his brothers give him rides rather than drive mom's car and ruin his reputation by driving around town in a car he was going to be laughed at if anyone saw him in it. Vain..who knows. Dad did have a reputation to uphold.
I'm with Dad on this. There's some things a self-respecting person just doesn't do, and driving an ugly car, even if it gets 900 miles a gallon and NEVER breaks down, is one of them.

Laughing, bank, etc. You can call me whatever names you want, but I can guarantee you that at 45, I will not be broke, married, with five kids, a shitty job, and hanging onto a chunk of aluminum and plastic to validate my self-worth.

1.Wow, look at her spin! She could be a regular on Fox News, I tell you! Tell me, is your name Ann Coulter?
Nah, I'm just some random guy yelling on the Internet. There's Internet dickhead, then there's your-worldview-is-seriously-fucked dickhead.
As I've said before, I'll be laughing all the way to the bank.

Apologize for what you said about my Dad, and maybe we'll talk.

That's fair. Looking back on it, I did get a bit caught up in the heat of the argument, and didn't seek other explanations before shooting my mouth off. It's far more likely he fell for some stupid, bullshit marketing slogan, which happens to all of us from time to time. He had an extreme case of it, though, if he thought his wife's car wasn't even good enough to use as a stopgap for a couple days. My apologies to your dad.
(P.S. Old Thunderbirds are badass, if you've the bank for 'em.)

Some people actually like driving those expensive image cars, though. While my friend with the bright yellow 911 certainly likes the image it projects, he also has taken on the track at least 10 times, plus multiple autocrosses. Strangely enough, he showed the same level of enthusiasm for his used, rusted out Corolla FX16. Anyway, for some people, and I kind of include myself in this, albeit on a budget, find it worthwhile to spend more for sporty cars because they're a hell of a lot of fun to drive. So you can't just say some dude is driving a good looking car because he's an image obsessed twit.

No, and if that's what you thought I was saying, I apologize, because that was not what I was getting at. There are lots of sporty-looking cars that are actually good cars. The 911, of course, is a good example. Your Mazda is a good car all-around. My beef is with people who claim that their reputation, as it were, is predicated on what kind of car they drive. Or, they think if they brush by an xB in the parking lot, they'll catch on fire. Style is, at best, only one dimension of a car, and it's probably the worst one to put the most emphasis on. That is the point I was trying to make, albeit assholeishly. It's been a rough semester so far, and I need to catch myself before I start flipping out over these little things, rather than realize it after the fact and a string of annoyed people are left in my wake.
My secondary point was that style does not make a car. You have stylish, fun, good cars like the Legacy GT that I like, and you have the stylish, shitty cars like the two-seater Pontiac put out, whose name escapes me at the moment.

Borg, you may think that because you're a mod, you can get away with making snide remarks about another poster's family, and then pass it off with a lame-ass apology.
It don't wash, and if you don't like THAT, put me on ignore or ban me.

You asked for an apology. I agreed and apologized. I don't know what further you could expect out of me, but to be quite honest, I'm not at all interested in speaking to you further if this is your attitude. Silly me, I thought you were going to be adult about the whole thing.
It don't wash, and if you don't like THAT, put me on ignore or ban me.
Why would I do that?

Funny, how I stopped calling you names, and apologized for it, but you're still going. That speaks volumes about the kind of person you are, rendova.

No, not really. As I've clarified in subsequent posts, I have nothing against cars being stylish. I'm merely against using that as your sole benchmark when purchasing an automobile.

I've owned a lot of cars in my time, some great and some not so great.
Of all the cars I have owned these were and still are my favorites. I wouldn't have traded any of them for Borg's practicle little shit boxes.

Nice cars, Frogger. One of my favs was a little Fiat I had once. It was faded out white with a yellow & black checked racing stripe up the middle. Best thing about that little car, it was not only sporty, if it wouldn't start, you could just about pick it up and carry it with you!
After that, I think my old man brought home an AMC Hornet station wagon for me... with the fake wood trim on the side? That thing always smelled of brake fluid. (I later divorced him, BTW)

I've always wanted a Morgan, one of those little puffers with the wood frame and removable seats. A buddy of mine had one in college and I fell in love with it.http://photos.ebizautos.com/5491/2352902_1.jpg
