Oh-root canals are a bundle of joy :(

Here's a trick my son the dentist taught me.
If a crown falls off put some vaseline in it and put it back on. It will hold until you can get to a dentist.

That's a great tip, Frogger. I'll rremember that next time it happens.
PS. Dentist wanted to do a root canal. I said, uh, no, just pull the damn thing. It's a back molar.

Hope it came out ok. I was wondering how it all went for ya.

It went pretty well, es--thanks.:)
I've never had a problem going to the dentist and thankfully have had pretty good teeth over the years--only a few cavities and fillings, and of course, had to have wisdom teeth pulled several years ago. Sure wouldn't want to repeat THAT experience.
We have dental insurance but it still only pays half. Around here, root canals go for around $800. We still woulda had to pay about $400--naw, didn't feel like funding the dentist's weekend in Bermuda. I guess I'm just funny that way. Besides, he said that root canals require multiple visits and even aren't all that successful.

Mine is a back molar too... Maybe I should just get it pulled... I don't think my parents would allow that though. They'd be all like "YOU NEED TO HAVE ALL YOUR TEETH" or whatever. My dad said the root canal, after all the visits, would be about $1500. And I already used up my entire limit on dental insurance this year, so my parents will have to pay the whole thing.

If it's one of the very back four teeth, then your parents are right, you do need it. My mother had one of her's pulled, over the strident objection of her dentist and his offer to pay for the procedure himself, (she can be a stubborn one) and her face hasn't sat right since.

Ugh. There's basically none of it left anyways. About 2/3 of the tooth is gone down to the gum line... That's why they gotta do a root canal and a crown instead of just filling it again. I'm considering just waiting a year so the insurance will cover half of it but I don't think my parents will allow that either.

See if you can get a dentist to put a filling on it anyway as a temporary procedure until you can get a root canal covered.

I HAD a filling in it, because we didn't wanna pay for a root canal last year either... But it got knocked out when they pulled my wisdom teeth, and it wasn't going to hold much longer by itself anyways. The dentist said he can't put another filling in there, because there's literally just not enough tooth there for it to hang onto....

My little sis has had all her back molars pulled, and got partials for both sides.
She's had no problem with them. Maybe your dentist could offer the parital option to you too, DF. He might have to pull another tooth but that would be more cost-effective , and probably a lot less painful too, than the root canal work.

Hmmm I dunno about that. Well I'm gonna talk to my step-mom about it... She worked in a dentist's office when she was younger so she knows all about this stuff.

Maybe your mom could get an implant, Nap.
I imagine they're kinda expensive but that's better than having your face out of whack. If I notice a wierd look to my own face that's what I'll do (and Rug Man can keep his comments about THAT to himself)

I'll have to keep this in mind.
After I had my wisdom teeth surgically removed the procedure left a small gap in the very back of my molar and every so often a small piece of food gets in there, like a tomato seed or such, and it cause pain and swelling like crazy. I was thinking the same as DF,just having it removed instead of filled again. Maybe I won't now.

Buy a water pik. They're great for taking care of just what you describe.

That's happened to us before, too. Totally unexpected, had no idea what for and later found out it was a mistake on the judiciary side of things. It took what seems like forever to clear it up...the courts don't like to admit to mistakes.
