Handle down, except for sharp knives and sometimes very large spoons that are top heavy...

mine has a little pull out rack that has little small holes,small enough so the silverware cant fall through. i just lay then in there flat.

Handle up....that way you don't touch the part that goes in peoples mouths when you remove them .

I normally put them handle down but thats only because I'm under the impression the parts that people eat off of will get cleaner.

Read the dishwasher instruction manual and it'll say you should put them in mixed with some up and some down to achieve best wash. That's what I do.

I used to have a dishwasher..until we moved into this house. I would put the handles down in the washer...and I still put the handles down even though I have to hand wash them, into the dishrack. Just makes sense.

i go with handle up at home-just easier to pull out and put away. when i was a dishwasher in highschool, it was handle down because i was told to dammit!

Barbaric! Maybe it's just because I'm female, but I just hate the idea of drinking anything but liquor straight from the bottle... (The liquor will kill the germs, so it's still sanitary, see? :D)

Eat fast food and dont cook. That way you'll never have to use the dishwasher
I prefer paper plates and plastic. and if it has to be cooked, thats what a barbecue is for

Since I have to hand wash my dishes I still put the knives and forks in the holder blade and tines down. I don't need anyone getting stabbed.

Maybe just maybe I aint the only one to fill the sink with hot water and a drop of washing up liquid, then get stuck in.

There ya go people, using machines, using more electric, power stations burning more fuel, trees being cut down, coal being dug up, rain erodes loose top soil, pollutes rivers, kills fish, no wood to cook it on anyway,its all been sold to clean your sunday best-hehe :D
