Funny, cause I will vote for McCain. Of course, part of that is because I really believe he will do what he says.

I guess it's accurate in showing that I'm not in total agreement with any candidate out there.

One problem I had with the poll was that I agree with McCain on immigration but it said that "Tighten security first. Then provide a path to citizenship for those here" (or something like that) was against John McCain. That's not my understanding.

I've taken this one before... Don't like it though... Half the questions I didn't really know what to answer. Obama wins in any case, but I think this is one of the less accurate ones... Also it doesn't ask enough questions about the economy, which is my most important issue. Obama and Hillary (who was 2nd) certainly don't agree with me about that. Immigration is my second most important issue, and neither of them agree with me about that either. Sooo I don't like this test. Generally the longer, more detailed ones are more accurate.

That last bit is the problem for me. His political leanings aren't the problem so much as the fact that, at heart, I know he's a Baptist preacher who would get in the national spotlight and deny basic scientific principles because the Bible tells him so.

I also kinda fear him giving christianity a bad rep by trying to force non-believers to obey his beliefs... That's not the way to come off.

Well he couldn't force anything... I mean, think about how much power the President actually has..

As far as him not believing in scientific principles, well I dunno how that relates to anything he would do as President. I don't care if the president believes in creationism or evolution or what. That's a non-issue for me.

I think it is just the image that would be plastered on Christianity of Huckabee starts trying to get biblical law written into the constitution, like he said he wanted to do.

As far as scientific principles, I think it just shows a bit of the person's belief system and character. But I agree that it's not a big deal.

It would discriminate against anyone who isnt Christian, or non believer.

That's pretty much it... Issues like abortion are the "big issues" when selecting a president, but the president really doesn't matter much on that front.

Ah....I see.

So it matters nothing to you whether the leader of the most powerful nation on earth is a superstitious imbecile or if he recognizes hundreds of years of accumulated scientific knowledge and research.

Theists don't seem to understand that, in science, a theory is the highest possible status that any explanation can have. In laymen terms a theory is a 'guess'. Evolution is not a guess. It is the sum of a mountain of evidence collected over many, many years, and there is zero evidence for creationism except in pseudoscience.

:lolhit: Yeah I'm pretty sure it already happened.

As far as evolution goes, yes, I know how well-documented it is and I know what the scientific definition of theory is. However, what does believing in evolution have to do with being President?

Nothing per se, but even so, do you want the leader of your country saying ignorant things in your name?

Freethinker

However, what does believing in evolution have to do with being President?

For me, it has to do with whether or not they are sane.

Those people who, with all the scientific evidence we have at our disposal in the year 2008, steadfastly maintain that creationism is a better, more coherent, more plausible explanation for how human beings came to be on this planet are --in my view-- suffering from a form of insanity.

It is one thing when some 85 year old woman with a second grade education who belongs to the ** First United Apostolic Church of the Believers of the Son of The Lamb and Holy Spirit of the Gospel Missionary Temple of the Redeemer**and who lives in rural Gumbo, Alabama is unshakeably convinced that almighty God reached down 6000 years ago and took a rib out of Adam and made a woman with it on the spot.........it is quite another thing when the leader of the most powerful nation on earth is convinced of such a preposterous fairy tale.

Leper

As far as evolution goes, yes, I know how well-documented it is and I know what the scientific definition of theory is. However, what does believing in evolution have to do with being President?

Well, the type of person required to disbelieve evolution is not the type of person I would want to be president. It means this person is willing to interpret a 2,000 year old book and believe so fervently in his intepretations that he is willing to disregard the centuries of scientific research that have built evolutionary principles. In other words, he prizes faith and "gut feelings" over expertise and research....I really am not ready for another president like that.

Beyond that, it validates the "creationism" point of view. This is a serious problem since a substantial portion of our country already views creationism as something that should be taught in science class. To me, that is a serious national problem - that we are confusing religion and science.

How do these people talk away dinosaur fossils?

Well, there was a "science" museum built by religious founders recently which features exhibits of dinosaurs living side by side with early man (by "early," this museum means no more than a few thousand years ago).

There's also the belief that God made the earth with fossils already present...Afterall, God can do anything he wants.
