"He stopped loving her today" George Jones

He said I'll love you 'til I die
She told him you'll forget in time
As the years went slowly by
She still preyed upon his mind

He kept her picture on his wall
Went half crazy now and then
He still loved her through it all
Hoping she'd come back again

Kept some letters by his bed
Dated 1962
He had underlined in red
Every single I love you

I went to see him just today
Oh but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away
First time I'd seen him smile in years

He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today

(Spoken)
You know she came to see him one last time
Oh and we all wondered if she would
And it kept running through my mind
This time he's over her for good

He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today

Had Ms Dion been around during D-Day, the Allies could have dropped her off at Omaha Beach with a PA system and have her sing All By Myself until the German infantry bayoneted themselves.

LMAO!

1. The Christmas Shoes Newsong (2000)

I hate that song with untold passion.

The most depressing song I've ever heard has got to be Nutshell by Alice in Chains.

Johnny Cash is the king of sad songs...
"The Long Black Veil"
"25 Minutes to Go"
"The Ballad of Ira Hayes"
"Dark As a Dungeon"
"When The Roses Bloom Again"
Etc.

And I agree about Hank Williams, Frogger.

Depends on your definition of "sad"...

I'd say Nine Inch Nails have the most depressing lyrics... but yet musically I love them.

That's because it's about a dead girl, and funerals.

Speaking of which, here are some equally depressing funereal songs:

* Don't Worry, Be Stiffy
by Bobby McFuneral

* Don't Let The Lid Go Down On Me
by Elton Corpse

* Say Ya, Say Ya Dead
by Outkasket

* Rock N Roll All Night, and Decompose Every Day
by KISS Grandma Goodbye

* Last Rights For Mary Jane
by Tom Petty and the Heartstoppers

Danny Boy (http://www.news.com.au/mercury/story/0,22884,23328061-5005940,00.html)

THE dirge-like Irish classic song Danny Boy has been banned for a month by an Irish pub in New York because it's too depressing and was written by an Englishman.
