I have xp and I have been keeping sites I like in my links folder located on the task bar. For some reason I can no longer find my links icon. Can anyone help?

Right click on the taskbar, go to "toolbars", and make sure "links" is checked.

That should reactivate it.

I did, it is and I still can't find link on the screen.

The "links" can be set to floating... maybe they are somewhere else on your desktop (under your taskbar... or even off-screen somewhere?

I've looked for them and can't find them.

Every once in awhile I see what is sort of a ghost image of the word links. It is lighter than the rest of the words on the taskbar and when I click it nothing happens. I seem to have lost my address bar too.

Is your taskbar "locked" or "unlocked"? (Right clicky)

unlocked and links and address bar are checked.

... if it is unlocked, you can (intentionally or unintentionally) "drag" items off of it.

If I did, I don't know how I did or how to get them back.

unlocked and links and address bar are checked.

It's probably been inadvertently "dragged" off. Hmmmm. If you can't find it on your desktop, you might could try the "autohide" option in "properties" and see if it's buried... grab it if so, and drag it back into the task bar (or set the taskbar vertical to see the same thing).

If you can't find it....

A overkill method would be to do a system restore to an earlier date (when it worked for you)... and then make sure you set the taskbar to "locked" afterwards.

You've lost me. Where will I find properties?

OldPhart

Right click on the taskbar... properties should be on the bottom of the menu there.

I did that and I have a ghost image of links. It has a dotted line in front of it and the word links is lighter than the rest of the task bar. When I click on it it moves from the extremel right to the extreme left and that is all that happens.

I found this on the 'net... don't know much about it. Could be great, could be bad...

Other than that, you may have to try the sytem restore method. Unless someone else has a better thought. Sorry.

There is a place there where it says restore task bar default. I don't know if I should click on it. I don't want to lose any of my sites becauwe without my links I won't be able to find them again.

I'd probably try a system restore then. Like I said, I have not downloaded and tried that software... so I can't be sure it's decent.

You have a recent restore point on your system (when the links were working)?

I did a system restore and it didn't correct the problem. Thanks for your help anyway, OP.

Sorry, I'm out of ideas. You can always try Microsoft technical support via their web site. I have actually had some decent luck (sometimes) with them when there is a odd problem.

Good luck.

Thanks for your help, OP. I think I might have fixed the problem. It seems my links folder somehow deleted itself. I am going to try to reinstall all my sites into the folder.

You'd be better off putting your links in Firefox. You do use Firefox, don'tcha?

Another method would be to import them from your favorites backup file

--Just try to import only the links you need, otherwise you'll have everything duplicated (Makes for a lot of cleanup )

Have you tried a SYSTEM RESTORE?? (That might restore the icon)

Restore to before it vanished......

Good luck :)
