If that wasn't from last Monday, then I dub thee a cock attacking people for no reason other than to feed your bigotry. If it was from Monday, that's some funny shit!

Nothing you can prove. You don't know me in the least and certainly not enough to make a statement such as that.
You're in dire need of a surgical procedure I've heard about. A plexiglass window is placed in the abdominal wall allowing one and all to see just when your head is firmly inserted in your rectum. Be sure to get it done soon.

Oh please. I've made racial humor before here. Even dubbed porta-potties "Mexican Space Stations." But even I would not make a whole thread dedicated to insulting black people as a celebration of the very holiday that memorializes the victory of their hard-fought battle for civil rights, in the US News section instead of Humor. I would have kept it to a thread already on the topic.
Oh, by the way, if ever you find yourself on MLK Jr. Drive, run!

It's a little late for MLK day, but here's my personal tribute to Dr. King.
One of the outcomes of the Civil Rights Movement of the 60s was the passage of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965. This act abolished immigration quotas based on national origin, and opened the nation's door to people who previously did not have the opportunity to immigrate to the US. My parents were such people. Taking advantage of the new laws, my dad moved to New York City from India in 1971, and my mom did the same in 1974. They came to the US looking for better opportunities, and they found them. They eventually went from the $40 they entered the country with to the uppermost tax brackets.
Some years after my parents arrived in the US, my sister was born in New Jersey; I followed soon after. I had a comfortable childhood with little to worry about. However, I was well aware of how fortunate I was, and furthermore, realized that none of it would have been possible had my parents not been able to immigrate to this country all those years ago. My life would have been vastly different and, in all likelihood, much worse. I would have been born in some craphole in India, dealing with all that you have to deal with in a third-world country, and dreaming of what life would be like if I lived in America. The Civil Rights Movement gave me the opportunity to be born into that dream, and for that I am grateful.
In short, I owe everything I have and everything I am to Martin Luther King and those who marched with him. I hope Americans will continue to appreciate and celebrate their contributions to this nation.
Happy (belated) MLK Day.

Nice post Jester, and for what it's worth, I'm glad we opened the doors to your parents, and millions of others like them.

Hell, George Washington doesn't even have his own day anymore. It, along with Lincoln's birthday has been changed to President's Day, a day that honors all our Presidents equally.

Yeah, well, I guess your parents had more than just a "draem" when they came here.
That said, nice post. Now, if only we could selectively weed out the undesirables to make way for people like your parents....

Well that's what immigration laws are in place for. The problem is with the people who circumvent those laws. There's no way to separate the "undesirables" from the others.

Scrape away all the verbiage and it still boils down to no more Washington's Birthday and no more Lincoln's Birthday. Instead we have President's Day.

I think the main reason they lumped at least GWashingtons birthday and Lincolns Birthday is because they are so close together and Valentines day is right there as well. No way they are going to give two federal holidays that close together on days potentially fall in the middle of the week....and god forbid they mess with one of the biggest spending seasons of the year except christmas......
What you get is a lumping of the two in to "presidents" day.. So we can honor all presidents of the past... That also prevents us from having to make a future holiday for a president who was popular (sorry truth and shaman... there will be no President Clinton's' day)(And Yes Freethinker next year while your buying that new sofa set that you got a killer deal on... your also celebrating Former Mr. President G.W Bush.)
They put a bow and a smile on it and call it "presidents day weekend" and the federal institutions and banks take the Monday following off
Car dealerships, department stores and even furniture outlets throw a "once a year" sale.... and we are all happy...
Why do you think Columbus got a day? there is no holiday or opening for a 3 day weekend for weeks before it or after it... Columbus day is not an Italian American holiday despite what the Italians in NYC believe. It was just an opening for a three day weekend and he was the most famous guy who had a birthday in the middle of that long stretch without Monday holidays.
Dont get too worked up Frogger...It isnt a race thing or even a cultural thing.... it is just an opportunity thing... If Washington or Lincoln were born a few months in a different direction they would have their own day over Columbus I promise.

Did you read the link that Mike provided, LF? There is no "Presidents' Day". The federal government celebrates Washington's Birthday, and it is officially called that. Lincoln's birthday is not a federal holiday.

ummm that was kinda my point. officially there isn't a presidents day... my point was a little obscure but it was a show of how the term is used for business to pass a gimmick due to convenience and opportunity and why Columbus has its own day..

When I was in school. 1983-1995 we would have it off and it was called "presidents day".What I dont remember is the change over to simply Washington's Birthday.... I do clearly remember looking at a calender some time back and Washington's exact birthday was listed and a few days earlier or later was Lincoln birthday.... they text was colored black.... then the Monday following was printed with red text and read "presidents day observed"
